All-suite stay with a rooftop fire pit near Petco Park

Every one of the 135 suites has a full kitchen, open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows over downtown. There's a fire pit on the 8th-floor terrace, and Petco Park is a few minutes' walk.

The Margot opened in May 2026 as one of the first hotels in Hilton's new Outset Collection, a brand built for independent-minded travelers. The whole stay is themed around Margot, a fictional local whose picks fill the neighborhood guides. Pets are welcome too.

Good to know

  • Every suite has a full kitchen, which makes it one of the better long-stay options downtown.
  • The 8th-floor terrace with its fire pit is the spot for sunset before a Padres game.

Overall, we had a great stay and would absolutely consider staying here again, especially because of the in-room laundry and full kitchen. Those amenities were incredibly convenient and made a huge difference during our trip. The deli across the street where the hotel credit can be used was also excellent, with high-quality food. Our room itself was comfortable, but it faced the wall of the neighboring building. Since we booked at a heavily discounted rate, we felt that was fair enough. However, I would have appreciated knowing the room's view before booking, as I would not choose that particular room at the full nightly rate. When we checked in at the scheduled check-in time, the room was not ready and we were told it would be about 20 minutes. I completely understand that the front desk can't control how quickly housekeeping finishes, but once those 20 minutes had passed, it would have been nice if someone had checked in with us instead of leaving us to ask for another update. On the positive side, checkout was a much smoother experience. When I asked for a little extra time, they were happy to extend our checkout by 30 minutes, which I appreciated. There are a few small improvements that would make the experience even better. The bathroom could really use additional hooks or shelves, as there wasn't much space to set down a change of clothes or other personal items. Another reviewer suggested adding more hooks, and I completely agree. The shower curtain was also dirty and wasn't what I expected from a hotel in this price range. One thing I noticed after reading another review was the comment about the floors. I had the same experience. I didn't walk around in socks, but the floors were noticeably sticky. It almost seemed like the floor cleaner may not have been diluted enough rather than a cleanliness issue. The lobby could also use a few thoughtful touches. Napkins by the coffee station would be appreciated, and a small note next to the bottled water in the room indicating that they're complimentary would eliminate any uncertainty for guests. Finally, the service experience was a little inconsistent. When we arrived, there wasn't anyone at valet, so I ended up grabbing a luggage cart and unloading the car myself. I didn't mind doing it, but it wasn't what I expected, especially considering valet parking costs $70 (thanks, LAZ). Likewise, about half the time I walked through the lobby, there wasn't anyone at the front desk. That said, the valet attendant when we checked out was friendly, attentive, and a great way to end our stay. Overall, we genuinely enjoyed our time here. The kitchen and laundry alone make this a place we would happily return to, and with a few small improvements to communication, housekeeping details, and consistency of service, the experience would be even better.

The Margot Hotel was excellent. The rooms were very comfortable with thoughtful furnishings to make it feel more like a home than a hotel. There was also a nice balcony to get fresh air and easy access to Gaslamp and the water. Asaf was very welcoming at the front desk and was part of a great travel experience!

My husband and I stayed at The Margot Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, Outset by Hilton while attending a conference this week. We chose this hotel because of its spacious suite layout, in-room amenities—including a full kitchen, washer and dryer—and its convenient proximity to the Convention Center. The Margot is a clean, modern boutique hotel with a small but well-equipped fitness center. We also appreciated the daily vouchers provided for the deli located across the street. First, we would like to commend the staff for their exceptional customer service. Prior to our arrival, I spoke with Ace and requested a quiet room on the highest floor. He kindly noted our preferences, and we were pleased that our request was fully accommodated at check-in. Ace also assisted us during check-out and was professional, courteous, and friendly. We would also like to recognize Jesse, who checked us in. He was exceptionally professional, welcoming, and helpful. Since we opted out of housekeeping services during our stay, Jesse was happy to assist us with additional items we needed for our room. While the customer service was outstanding, we experienced a couple of issues with the suite’s amenities that impacted our stay. Fortunately, the maintenance team responded promptly and addressed the issue the following day. We also appreciate Raymen, the Front Desk Manager, for his quick response to our email regarding our concerns. He sincerely apologized on behalf of Hilton, graciously offered us a late checkout, and promised Hilton Honors points as a gesture of goodwill to make things right. Although the amenity issues caused some inconvenience and interrupted our stay, the Margot team’s professionalism, responsiveness, and positive attitude made a difference. We hope to return to The Margot on a future trip and enjoy the exceptional hospitality, with all of the suite’s amenities in full working order. Please keep up the excellent customer service!

The location is excellent, right in the Gaslamp Quarter and within walking distance of Petco Park, where there are games and events almost every evening. I stayed for four nights. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and I had a good night’s sleep. The hotel Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout my stay, which was a big plus. However, there are several areas that could be improved. The hotel does not offer breakfast or a guest laundry service. Although the room has a washer and dryer, this isn’t very practical for business or convention travelers who usually don’t have time to do laundry during their stay. Housekeeping was inconsistent. Towels were not always replaced, and the room was not serviced every day. I also noticed the floors were not cleaned properly. We didn’t wear shoes inside the room, and the bottoms of our feet quickly became dirty, so I ended up wiping the bathroom floor myself. The bathroom also has no towel hooks or rack for drying towels. Adding a couple of hooks would allow guests to reuse their towels instead of needing fresh ones every day. Another disappointment was that the two complimentary bottles of water were only provided on the first day and last day, were not replenished during the rest of our stay. Overall, the location, comfortable bed, and excellent Wi-Fi were the highlights. However, housekeeping and guest services need significant improvement

Great hotel with a great room. Comfy bed, nice kitchenette and even a washer/dryer. The front desk staff have been great but housekeeping really lets this fantastic property down. Housekeeping has only come twice during my so far 5 day stay, and they bring the 2x waters a day that you are paying a $30 destination fee for. They didn’t make the bed either time they visited, only left the water cans once and just left the towels on the toilet, which I was very grossed out by. I don’t really want the towels touching my face sitting on a toilet lid. I checked with the front desk twice and they were very friendly, but housekeeping never got the memo I guess. *edit* Housekeeping came to the room the day after the review and took care of everything. If housekeeping issues are resolved long term this really is a 5 star hotel.
