A Howard Street bakery in the SoMa warehouse blocks

Saltwater Bakeshop opened on Howard Street near Ninth in May 2026, in the low warehouse blocks of western SoMa where the ground floors are mostly workshops and design studios. It bakes for the counter, not for wholesale.

The area has almost no morning food, which is why bakeries keep choosing it. Weekday mornings are when it works. On a Sunday, half these blocks are shut and the street is empty.

Got a bunch of pastries to share with coworkers. Reliable almond croissant, delightful passionfruit kouign-amann. Had a mochi muffin for the first time and it was pretty great too! Very flaky and light pain au chocolat. Quick and friendly service, the chocolate-pistachio croissant was already sold out at 9:30am on a random weekday!

Meh. $52.52 not worth. Rather go for an actual breakfast. Atmosphere: Fantastic, super cozy and feels inviting. Soft music. Only downfall is no pricing on the pastries 👀 Service: The people are really nice and attentive. Said hellos, explained what they had, the recommendations. Overall smooth. Food: Apple Juice was a thick, real nice texture Croissant was like the crust of a sourdough loaf, no layers, all shell and hollow. Check out the pictures. Passion fruit Kouign-amann was the complete star of the show! 10/10 super soft flaky layered buttery, everything the croissant wants to be. Breakfast sandwiches at $15 each is insane for what was given. Egg was a mushy microwaves puck, just overall not worth.

Delicious baked goods and coffee in a fun and beautiful setting! The almond croissant, orange cardamom muffin and the cake were divine. 100% recommend!

Cute new bakery and coffee shop. Tried the chive cream cheese stuffed everything croissant with an iced mocha and both were delicious. Saw an earlier review that mentioned it was light on cream cheese, but that was not the case on mine.. will definitely be back! So many things I still need to try!

This place is superb! Everything is fresh, delicious, and expertly made - the owner is a classically trained pastry chef and it shows in the quality of everything on offer. I had a croissant and a pain-au-chocolat (chocolate croissant) and both were among the best I've had anywhere. Highly recommended.
