Double Black

A counter-only coffee stop that opened on Cole Street in July 2026
Double Black started pulling shots on Cole Street in July 2026, on the short retail run between Carl and Parnassus that passes for Cole Valley's high street. There's no table service, just a counter, the right call in a room this narrow.
The block had a bakery and a corner store already, but no espresso bar since the last one closed. Double Black fills that gap and sits close enough to the N Judah stop at Carl to catch the walk down to the train.

space was absolutely gorgeous staff were in excellent spirits, very kind and warm. think the owner was also in when went right as the store opened. truly an excellently curated space with so much care and attention to detail. merch from the yard sale side was gorgeous and snagged a t shirt on the way out. big hopes for this team! highly recommend

Without a doubt the best coffee shop in the area. Friendly, competent and overall great staff who are making high quality drinks. There’s a real care about the customer experience when you enter the shop which is maintained throughout. The vibes and the drinks are second to none, and this is going to continue to be a busy and successful shop.

Amazing. There is wifi and space for remote work, plenty of space and there are plug-ins on the wall. The food is so good and as a coffee snob I was impressive. There are multiple gf options and it’s about the same price as other coffee shops in sf. They also pay there employees like $20 and I appreciate that. Also alternate milk isn’t charged more. Yay! I got a croissant, the gf mochi muffin which was so good and an oat milk vanilla latte.

I think this coffee shop has been really well done, the coffee was good and pastries were good, it wasn’t anything outstanding but was good. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood and onces the business mellows out I think it will be a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee.

Awesome new spot that I am happy to welcome into the neighborhood. Delicious coffee and a great atmosphere and a truly excellent gluten free giant cookie. Large tables and open space for hanging out at enjoying your coffee.
