Arabic-spiced cocktails from the Cafe Suliman crew

ShibShib opened in June 2026 in Maynard Alley, from the people behind Cafe Suliman on Capitol Hill. The cocktails lean on Arabic spices and the room seats maybe twenty.

Food is snacks rather than dinner: piquillo peppers stuffed with whipped tuna, halloumi rolled in grape leaves. Two of those plus a drink is a decent light meal.

4.5 overall. The four of us stopped for drinks after dinner. DRINKS: 4.5. Good cocktails. OK wine available. Beer also available. SNACKS: 4.5. We had seasoned almonds. Yum. AMBIANCE: 4.5. Felt like I was back in a small popular subterranean bar in Ginza Tokyo, but without a long wait for a seat. Located down an alley, with frosted front windows. Mirrors line one dark-panelled wall where tables are lined up. Excellent slow jazzy instrumental music, at volume allowing comfortable conversation. SERVICE: 5.0. She was warm and diplomatically attentive.

Yes, yes, and yes. Great cocktails and the halloumi needs a punch card situation.
