Kuro

★ 4.8 · 35 reviews Washington, D.C. Opened July 2026

Albums played front to back on Georgia Avenue

Kuro opened on Georgia Avenue in July 2026, one of a run of listening bars DC picked up over two years. Each set is dedicated to a genre and albums get played front to back, no skipping.

Food and drinks are Japanese-leaning and secondary to the room. Sit near the speakers and accept that conversation will be intermittent.

Definitely recommend coming here! It’s a cool spot with good vibes. You can bring your own vinyl to play or pick something from their collection. The drinks and food were both good, too. The only downside is that it’s pretty pricey—cocktails are around $20–$23, and the small plates add up quickly. Still worth checking out for sure.

Kuro Listening Bar almost opened in downtown D.C. I'm so glad they didn't. I can't think of a better neighborhood for them to be in than Petworth. A short walk from the Metro, Black-owned Kuro Listening Bar is a slick place for a date or a hangout with friends with vibes. A good friend and I went on a Friday evening. Here's our experience. 1) Drinks: A nod to the famous listening bars in Japan, the menu leans toward Japanese flavors. For example, their Manhattan comes with smoked plum. Order it and the smoke dances from the cocktail at your table. For a sweeter drink, I enjoyed the Sakura 75, a riff off of a French 75. It wasn't as cold as I'd prefer, but the portion was generous for a D.C. bar. 2) Food: Their menu leans toward Japanese flavors like the cocktails and drinks. Edamame comes to every table, but we also enjoyed the shishito peppers, the miso mushroom noodles, and beef tataki. 3) Service: It was a busy evening, so service was slow, but we didn't need it to be faster. Every time our server dropped by our table, she was kind, personable, and attentive. 4) Space: It's a vibe. Records play in the intimate space. It's beautiful! Every day is BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl) so stay a while and enjoy the tunes.

Honestly, millennial paradise! The space is decorated beautifully and has the perfect balance of intimacy and privacy. The vibe was great, sound quality did not disappoint, and music was played at a comfortable volume so you could still carry on conversation. The music selection is excellent. If you can think of an album you'd want to share, it's in their collection. The drinks were pretty good. I had a Lychee Martini which was balanced (for a sweet drink) and refreshing. The smoked Manhattan was also nice but not my typical drink so I can't critique. My meal was ok. I had the chicken bites and brussels sprouts. The chicken was my favorite and I wished I had tried the mushroom pasta. The service was good. I have no complaints. This is a great place to come and wind down from your day/week.

Food was amazing. We got the miso mushroom noodles, fingerling potatoes plus some other things and everything was top notch. The happy hour was also a pretty good deal. Great atmosphere!

Just had the complimentary edamame to eat but drinks were excellent and atmosphere and concept are unique and fresh. And the music was of course excellent. So nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood. Looking forward to going back for the food which looked delicious.
