Seychellois cooking on a Shaw rooftop
Realm opened above O Street in Shaw in November 2025. The former chef of Bronze runs the kitchen, built around the food of the Seychelles, a cuisine with maybe one other restaurant's worth of presence in the US.
It's a rooftop first, so the drinks list carries the evening. Come for the kitchen anyway. There's nowhere else in DC cooking this.

Realm Rooftop DC is a super chic black-owned rooftop bar located at the penthouse level of the Hyatt House hotel. The menu features creole-inspired dishes with blend of French, Indian, and African flavors. I went during Happy Hour from 5-7pm and was able to try a majority of the items that are also featured on the dinner menu. My favorite Happy Hour menu item was the Spiced Shrimp Salad and the Port Victoria cocktail. Every Wednesday from 7p-1pm, the place is taken over by Eclectic Taste event group where their DJ sets the tone for an artist inspired music listening. This particular night featured Tems (no artist appearance). The music can be heard in every area, including the rooftop. If you want a table for dinner service, advanced reservations are strongly recommended as the place was packed. For dinner, I tried the Braised Wagyu Oxtails with the Charleston Red Rice. The rice was very flavorful but the oxtails weren’t as tender as like them so I ended up ordering the Tamarind-Glazed Lamp Lollipops which were absolutely fabulous. Be sure to order the broccolini on the side. Here’s everything I tried and my ratings: HAPPY HOUR - Island Oysters: 4/5 - Angus Sliders: 4/5 - Jerk Lamb Ribs: 4/5 - Spiced Shrimp Salad: 5/5 - El Diablo (Cocktail): 5/5 - Port Victoria (Cocktail): 5/5 GATHERING - Broccolini: 5/5 FIRE - Tamarind-Glazed Lamb Lollipops: 5/5 - Braised Wagyu Oxtails: 3/5 SWEETS - Mini Fruit Cheesecake: 3/5 - Vanilla Beignet Bites: 3/5 Note: passionfruit cheesecake was on the menu but it ended up being blueberry

As a Black professional woman in my 30s who loves good music, great food, and a sexy vibe, Realm Rooftop is one of my favorite spots in the city. The atmosphere is everything—upscale, grown, and effortlessly beautiful with the perfect energy for a night out. The music is always on point, the crowd is attractive and mature, and the ambiance gives that perfect Black luxury feel that can be hard to find. Whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or just stepping out for a good cocktail, Realm always delivers. The food is consistently good, but the real star for me is their espresso martini—hands down my favorite in town. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and strong enough to make you stay for another round. If you appreciate good vibes, good people, and a place that feels both elevated and fun, Realm Rooftop is definitely worth it. I’ll absolutely keep coming back.

Saw Realm on Instagram and decided to try it with my boo. It is a rooftop space above the Hyatt House (let that be your landmark) but it has a separate entrance (near the corner of O St. on 8th St NW) with an elevator that takes you strait up. We got there around 9pm on Saturday night. Lovely rooftop, very cool, hip vibe. The DJ was playing lounge music/afro eats. The food selection is limited and pricey for the serving size but this is a hotel lounge so that comes with the territory. We are dairy-free and gluten-free pescetarians so we had the crab cakes and the roasted cauliflower (no yogurt). Both we yummy (again small serving sizes). I also had the non-alcoholic hibiscus drink, which was also yummy. Parking is TOUGH. There is an attached garage but ot closes at 10pm. Sunoco has station nearby offers $20 parking. Service was friendly but a tad bit on the slow side. We found free street parking nearby. We will be back! My only recommendation is that they get a fish dish (salmon) and 1 or 2 more veggie options that aren't cooked in butter.

Extremely small menu and not a lot of choice. I do not mind spending money at all but this was crazy. More about the alcohol and scene. Beautiful peopole here though. Every guest was seriously beautiful. Immaculate club outfits or professional. Its a scene they are creating. The lighting on the sidewalk. The exclusive elevator. That's what your paying for. Innovative flavors but the food needs serious work here. (Expansion and maybe look at prices). Crab cake: tasted great but it is a proper Maryland crab cake though. An ounce or two. Not lump crab not even close, it was small, fine shreds of meat and it was overpriced. Fried. No coconut taste. It was 25.00 Flatbread. Meh. I was at Zaytinya last night and THAT was a flatbread withroasted vegetables and it dodnt taste microwaved. I really question the food reviews. There is no way there is a proper kitchen in that rooftop. Great view come for that in the spring when it warms up. Come for the alcohol. Eat elsewhere.

Realm Rooftop was a whole vibe. I went with a group of friends and immediately loved the ambience. It gives contemporary with a modern, sexy feel that’s perfect for a night out. The energy was great without feeling overwhelming. The menu is tapas style, which worked well for sharing. We ordered the Wagyu sliders, chili prawns, coconut crabcakes, roti short rib tacos, and jerk chicken fried rice. Everything was flavorful and well executed. The standouts for me were definitely the Wagyu sliders and the short rib tacos. Both were rich, tasty, and worth ordering again. Overall, great food, great atmosphere, and a dope spot to catch up with friends. I would absolutely come back, especially when the weather is warmer!
