Yala Greek Ice Cream

★ 4.7 · 305 reviews Washington, D.C. Opened July 2025

Baklava, but frozen

Yala opened on N Street in Georgetown in July 2025 scooping Greek flavours built out of filo, walnuts and honey. Effectively baklava in a cup.

The Yasou Dubai is the one to get: pistachio, tahini, shredded filo, chocolate drizzled over the top.

I tried Yala twice during my two day visit. This is ice cream with greek yogurt added. I’ve only ever had another similar dessert at Souvla in San Francisco (Greek Ice cream, cherry flavored), which I loved. And I love oranges/tangerines, but typically don’t enjoy orange flavored sweets (chocolate, creamsicles, marmalade, etc). Surprisingly, Mornings with Thea was my favorite! I thought that the Greek Blue was my favorite because it was the most tart out of the other options, but when compared to the Mornings with Thea, it’s barely tart at all. The four flavors I tried are super light, not too sweet- a nice cold treat when it’s super hot and humid outside. In order of preference: Mornings with Thea (orange), Greek blue summer (mixed berries with little lemon), Aegean sea (apricot), and Tia mas (cherries).

Delicious ice creams! Loved the Greek yogurt ones very refreshing. Loved also the story behind and the attention to detail and store interior making it feel special

I was excited to finally visit Yala Greek Ice Cream in Georgetown, and it definitely lived up to the hype! During my visit, I sampled Ego Thelo Strawberry (a refreshing Mediterranean strawberry sorbet), Aegean Sun (Greek yogurt ice cream with sun-ripened apricot jam), and Mornings with Thea (creamy Greek yogurt ice cream swirled with traditional orange preserves). Each flavor was incredibly smooth and flavorful, but Mornings with Thea completely won me over. The tangy Greek yogurt paired perfectly with the sweet, citrusy orange preserves, creating a unique and refreshing flavor that kept me coming back for more. I loved it so much that I ordered a small two-scoop cup and even took home a pint to enjoy later. The only downside wasn't the shop itself—it was the unpleasant odor outside while we were enjoying our ice cream on the benches. It took away from what would have otherwise been a perfect outdoor experience, but thankfully the quality of the ice cream more than made up for it. If you're looking for something different from traditional ice cream, Yala's Greek yogurt creations are absolutely worth trying. I can't wait to come back and sample even more flavors!

Loved the natural flavor options here (blueberry, pistachio, honey, etc) that really let you taste the quality of the ice cream. Also loved getting to be part of your collaboration with Alchimie skincare! What a great idea for the summer! Great customer service as well, everyone was very friendly.

We tried the Yia Mas and Morning with Theo Greek yogurt ice creams from Yala Greek Ice Cream. It’s hands down one of the best and most unique ice cream varieties I’ve ever had! I seriously hope they open up a location in Seattle soon—we need this there!
