Cana

ā˜… 4.6 Ā· 401 reviews Washington, D.C. Opened October 2024

Caipirinhas, and everything else

Cana opened on 18th Street in Adams Morgan with a cocktail list split into two sections: caipirinhas, and everything else. The kitchen sends out charcoal-grilled steak, shrimp empanadas and crispy pork belly.

The records skew heavily to the '60s and '70s, played on vinyl. It is aiming at a Rio bar rather than a Brazilian restaurant, and the difference shows up after 10pm.

Had drinks and dessert recently at Cana during one of their bossanova music nights. Our server was very nice and accommodating of a dietary restriction, very knowledgeable. Drinks and vibe were amazing! Hopefully can come back soon when musician is playing again!

Tried the Yucca & Cheese Waffle with crispy fried chicken at @barcanadc and it blew me away! That chewy, cheesy yucca waffle base paired with perfectly spiced, ultra-crispy chicken is the ultimate sweet & savory combo. 10/10 recommendation! šŸ”„

I’m from šŸ‡§šŸ‡· and I can say Cana is very authentic and the best Brazilian restaurant in DC! The food has been consistently excellent over the years. My favorites are the picanha, the octopus and coxinha de pato( duck coxinha) and The pudim for desert is AMAZING too.For drinks, Passion fruit caipirinha and the espresso martini with cachaƧa are BOMB. The atmosphere is so chic and they have DJs on the weekends. We got there a little early so we had drinks at the bar. Our waiter Thais took good care of us and gave us complimentary shots ( cachaƧa shots), which was so good and such a thoughtful touch. Easy 5 stars 🄰

As someone from Northeast Brazil, I can be very particular about Brazilian food because it carries so much nostalgia and reminds me of home. Cana exceeded my expectations in every way. The picanha was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked just right. Every bite reminded me of the quality and flavors I grew up with in Brazil. The caipirinhas were equally impressive, refreshing, balanced, and authentic, just the way they should be. What truly made the experience exceptional was our server, Thais. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She made us feel at home from the moment we sat down and provided outstanding service throughout the entire meal. Her kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail elevated an already fantastic dining experience. Finding a restaurant that captures the flavors and hospitality of Brazil is not always easy, but Cana absolutely delivers. I left feeling happy, nostalgic, and already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Brazilian cuisine and exceptional service in Washington, DC.

Since from outside they don’t advertise as a Brazilian Restaurant, it is ok to completely go away from the original Brazilian drinks and dishes as long as it’s sold as ā€œinspired byā€ Brazilian cuisine. I am from Brazil and was with another Brazilian friend celebrating my birthday: we had 5 plates/small dishes + 3 different types of caipirinha. Those from BraSil will know what I am talking about: caipirinhas dont have a giant ball of ice of top of the drink looking like a slushie; just a few ice cubs on the rocks, por favor! Frango a passarinho: it is not supposed to be fried wings! Not breaded, not giant pieces, not sweet! Torresmo: it’s not supposed to be a soggy fried piece from a strip of bacon. We asked to refry to increase crunchiness, but still couldn’t take it. Queijo qualho ok, but why the sweet cane/honey added to it? Everything is sweet! Brazilians love salt! Kibe cru: was that mayo on top of it? Where is the arugula or mint? :/ the best caipirinha was the basic one, but we had to ask without the ball of ice on the top. Music is great. It has potential but if it advertises Brazilian inside, please make some dishes to our taste šŸ‡§šŸ‡· the best part was the desert flan with a spoon of doce de leite. My friend didn’t like it and he is from the state famous for doce de leite. I enjoyed because I love sweet condensed milk šŸ˜‹
