Carla Hall's fried chicken sandwich shop

Carla Hall opened Bumblebirds on Pennsylvania Avenue SE in May 2026, built around fried chicken sandwiches on brioche.

Toppings do the work: whipped hot honey butter, house sweet pickles, black pepper ranch slaw. The drinks are Southern too, including iced tea with vodka and Peachtree and an elderflower julep.

The food was so tasty. I think by far the best chicken sandwich ever! I enjoyed the atmosphere and loved my happy hour drink!

Delicious chicken at this new Carla Hall restaurant! I preferred the fingers, but if you like chicken thigh, I highly recommend the sandwich. Ask for extra pickles….they’re amazing! The strawberry lemonade is the best I’ve ever had. Plenty of seating upstairs!

Service was standard, staff not too friendly. Food was flavorful with the exception of the biscuits. They were a bit too dry ! Og was good with the duck donuts were tasty. Grilled chicken sandwich was good. Iced tea , lemonade was good. Ambience acceptable, aesthetically pleasing. Parking problematic.

Quick service, really cute place and food was great. The OG was our favorite. We didn't care for the fried chicken skins bit thought it was a neat touch for something different. The warm kettle chips were good. Added some salt and pepper.

Bumblebird is a solid go-to if you’re craving a crispy chicken sandwich with bold flavor. The chicken is usually juicy on the inside with a crunchy coating that doesn’t feel greasy, which is a big plus. Their sauces really stand out—they add a nice kick and make each sandwich feel a little different. The menu is simple but effective, focusing on doing a few things well instead of trying to offer everything. The fries are good, especially when fresh, and pair well with the sandwiches. Portions are filling, so you definitely get your money’s worth. The staff at Bumblebird are generally friendly and welcoming, especially during slower hours. Most employees greet you when you walk in and are willing to answer questions about the menu or make recommendations, which makes the experience feel more personal. During busy times, you can tell they’re working hard to keep up with orders. Service can feel a bit rushed, but that’s understandable given how packed it gets. Even then, the team usually stays respectful and keeps things moving as efficiently as possible What stands out most is that when the team is on point, the vibe is upbeat and organized, which makes the whole visit more enjoyable.
