A $138 kaiseki counter with a walk-in patio

Koryouri Urara opened on Wisconsin Avenue in July 2025 with a $138 tasting menu: egg custard, kombu-cured sashimi, lotus root sandwiches.

If that is more commitment than the evening calls for, the patio takes walk-ins for à la carte snacks and sake. Same kitchen, a quarter of the outlay.

This was the most amazing meal I’ve ever had. The flavors in each course were so distinguishable and highlighted so well. And the perfect temperatures of each dish add to the full experience of the curated meal. The chawanmushi was probably my favorite part, but I thoroughly enjoyed each tasting. Thank you to the excellent Chef Urara and her staff for the care they put into the whole experience.

I’ve only eaten at the counter - once for the sushi omakase and another time for the Japanese tasting menu. Both were incredible, and I can’t wait to go back. In true omakase style, Chef decided against one dish in favor of doing a beautiful chirashi bowl. I can’t wait to go back!

An Unforgettable First Omakase Experience! I recently took my 12-year-old daughter to Koryouri Urara for her very first omakase experience, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the customer service was absolutely top-notch. The staff and chef went above and beyond to make us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable, ensuring the experience was warm and approachable rather than intimidating. As for the food; every single bite was absolutely amazing, perfectly curated, and beautifully presented. My daughter loved every single piece, which speaks volumes about the chef's talent and the quality of the ingredients. If you are looking for incredible food paired with world-class hospitality, Koryouri Urara is the place to go. We will absolutely be back! Highly, recommend.

Chef Urara and her team have created something truly special. My wife and I enjoyed all ten courses from start to finish. The onigiri and mitsuba provided to take home were such a thoughtful and generous touch at the end of an already flawless meal. This was, without question, the best Japanese dining experience we’ve had in DC. And don’t skip the wine pairing. It elevated every course and complemented the menu beautifully. Thank you for an unforgettable evening. We can’t wait to come back!

My partner and I came Koryouri Urara for her birthday dinner. We decided to try this “home style” omakase after reading about it online. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy - relatively small in size. The service was top notch. Chef urara was very approachable and friendly describing how each dish was prepared and her thought behind the offering. The food was excellent . I’ve noticed that some disappointed reviews based on the menus/dishes that were offered. I think the key word of the dishes being offered here is “home style” which can be different from other omakase experience. Personally, we enjoyed our experience at Koryuri and look forward to our next visit.
