Two Japanese-French rooms at Regent Phu Quoc: a sushi counter and a wagyu salon
Sushi at the counter or Japanese wagyu in the salon: chef Andy Huynh splits Oku's dining room into two very different nights out. It's the resort's first dedicated fine-dining Japanese concept since Regent Phu Quoc opened in 2022.
The real reason to check the calendar is Taste Studio, a rotating residency that flies in cooks from Michelin-recommended restaurants abroad for short, multi-night runs. Open six evenings a week to outside diners, not just hotel guests.

Great service and tasty Omakase served by chef Ngan and his team. I would have loved to see more seafood though, as the three pieces of sushi were toro, wagyu, and shrimp - only two pieces from the ocean. The cake, poloroid photo, and handwritten letter for our special occasion really make the experience a memorable one.

Value for Money 8/10 Extremely expensive, but justified for special occasions. The interior design is breathtaking, featuring an Art Deco aesthetic that manages to feel both opulent and intimate. he restaurant specializes in French-Japanese fusion, executed with precision. You essentially have two paths. Food Quality 10/10 World-class ingredients; flawless execution.

We chose the 6 course menu with wine pairing. The dishes were very clean and fresh. The chef was very nice and friendly. The wines were very delicious and there was a surprise because I am Hungarian, we had Tokaji wine for dessert. I feel sorry for those guests who cannot appreciate good things, because that is all you get here!

I would definitely give 5 stars for the service — the staff were warm & attentive. The special gift and printed photo were a thoughtful touch. However, I believe these gestures are already reflected in the rather high service charge that the resort collects. As for the Omakase dining experience itself, I would rate it around 4 stars overall. I’m sharing this so that anyone who, like me, is visiting Oku for the first time can have a more balanced perspective. There were 6 courses plus one amuse-bouche. The dishes were well-presented and pleasant to eat, but not particularly outstanding — nothing that truly surprised or “wow’ed” me. The highlights were the Japanese oysters and the dessert course, both of which were beautifully executed. One area that could be improved is the chef’s introduction and storytelling. For an Omakase — which, by definition, is “a menu of trust, left to the chef’s inspiration” — I expected more insight into the meaning, technique, or inspiration behind each dish. That connection was missing. Overall, Oku offers a refined dining atmosphere and great service, but to truly live up to the Omakase spirit and Regent’s branding as advertised, the culinary narrative could be deepened to create a more memorable and meaningful experience.

First of all, the food here was truly excellent. The final dessert, in particular, had a flavor that genuinely lifted our spirits. We were also very impressed by the kindness and thoughtful attention from the staff. Thanks to that, we had a wonderful time.
