Aqqu
Almaty Opened 23 June 2025
The Soviet-era swan cafe, reborn on Panfilov Street
Aqqu means swan in Kazakh, named for the pond that once sat beside the original cafe in the Golden Square. Swan motifs and apple orchard imagery run through the new mosaics, crockery and vases, all built after the team studied the district's historic buildings.
The kitchen stays simple on purpose. Bread comes out three times a day, coffee is roasted on site, and thick sandwiches get assembled in front of you. The ice cream and lemonade are the same ones older Almaty residents remember from the original counter.
