Scoops at the front of a seventeenth century hotel

Seven historic buildings linked by a courtyard garden make up the Schimmelpenninck Huys on the Oosterstraat, and the newest addition has nothing to do with staying the night. The ice cream parlour sits at Oosterstraat 47, right at the front of the complex, scooping cones for anyone walking the shopping street.

It's one of three ground-floor spots now open in the block, alongside a grand café and a bistro, which makes this stretch of the Oosterstraat busier than it's been in years. Cone or cup, expect a queue on the first warm afternoon of the season.
