Rodeo: clear exterior shot of venue

Rodeo

★ 4.7 · 51 reviews Oslo Opened February 2026

Modern bistro with the wine bar built in

A top score from Aftenposten's critics and a spot on the list of the paper's most-anticipated openings of 2026: Rodeo earned both within weeks of opening on Sannergata. The wine bar isn't an afterthought here, it's built into the whole concept.

Upper Grünerløkka turns residential right around this corner, and the room reflects it: small, quiet, made for a long dinner rather than a quick one. Book ahead.

Given that the chefs have backgrounds from some of my favourite restaurants in Oslo, combined with the great reviews, I arrived with high expectations for this spot. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to them. The restaurant itself is beautiful and cosy - we opted for the tasting menu, although we only received five savoury courses plus dessert rather than the six courses advertised. The filo tart was the standout dish for me, feeling both balanced and interesting. The tartar was enjoyable, but I felt it could have benefited from an additional element to balance the richness of the cheese and beef; the crunch from the squash helped, but not quite enough. The mussels were noticeably salty and, again, felt somewhat unbalanced and uninspired. The ricotta dumplings were presented as a kind of square gnocci with sweetcorn that I found lacked depth, and felt underwhelming in the context of a 995 NOK tasting menu. The duck, was cooked perfectly, however the accompanying haricots were inconsistent in texture, with some overcooked and others undercooked. The dish was enjoyable, but felt quite familiar and less distinctive than I had hoped. To finish, the rhubarb ice cream was delicious, although I was hoping for a dessert with a little more creativity to end the meal on a high note. Service was friendly, but we received little to no explanation of the dishes throughout the meal. We only realised after leaving that one of the advertised tasting menu courses had never been served. The wine list also felt somewhat limited. Perhaps it is challenging to recreate the excitement, depth of flavour and variety of textures that characterised the chefs' previous restaurants on a larger scale. Looking at earlier menus, it seems some of those elements may have been present at opening. I hope the team continues to refine the current offering, as there is clearly potential here. While I wouldn't rush back at the moment, I certainly wouldn't write it off and would be interested to see how the restaurant develops over time.

What a place! Recommend to book a table, but when I came to the venue the bar was what approached me the most. Love to feel the vibe of great people working. Knowledge, service minded and a lot of delicious food & music; combinations that can’t go wrong.. Will definitely come back! (Also loved the blue light in the bar fridge)

What a place! Exceptional food, wine selection and service. Everything was outstanding, from the starters to the desserts. I found the venue truly unique, with a very distinctive vibe, elevated by a warm and highly professional team. I particularly enjoyed my conversations with the French manager and the owner. A special mention goes to Loïc, the bar manager, for his cocktails (the Chartreuse Sour and the Margarita). They alone are worth coming back for. Thank you Rodeo!
