Pan-Asian plates finally reach Montehiedra

Grupo Pepe's fourth restaurant is their first pan-Asian one, mixing Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian plates in a full-service room at The Marketplace at Montehiedra. Locals flag the eel nigiri first.

Southern San Juan rarely gets openings this ambitious. The good spots usually stop at Condado or Santurce, so a dinner room this good off the highway exit is worth the drive.

We went to Toru with a group of eight people. The food was really good overall. It’s not an authentic Japanese restaurant, but the dishes were delicious and everyone at the table enjoyed what they ordered. The drinks were especially good and well made. The atmosphere is pleasant and it’s a nice place to go with friends. One thing to keep in mind is that there is only one restroom, so you may have to wait in line if the restaurant is busy. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely go back.

Solid experience, interesting flavors in both the cocktails and food! I liked the ambiance and that it offers a cozier experience for friends or family. I had seen reviews about portion size with main dishes, but only found that to be an issue with the sushi, but regardless it was delicious. I only suggest lowering the sugar content on the chocolate cake and maybe name it a brownie because it’s a bit too sweet and dense for a cake. But overall, great experience, food, and drinks.

The best Asian fusion I’ve had in a long long time. The pad Thai is to die for! And the ambiance and service was insane. Paola was really amazing with her suggestions and service.
