Two chefs, one pan-Asian umami riot on Ashford
Kelly Pirro and Maria Mercedes Grubb, a James Beard semifinalist, cook a pan-Asian menu that keeps running into Caribbean ingredients. Okonomiyaki shares the table with dishes you won't quite place, and that collision is the whole point.
The kitchen fires until midnight, which almost nothing else on this strip does. That alone makes it Condado's best late dinner answer.
Good to know
- The kitchen serves until midnight, rare for Condado.

Delighted to return to SatoFino for a second time on my return visit to Puerto Rico. They were quite busy this time around and the staff was juggling so many things at once but did so with an incredibly beautiful attitude and attention to detail and professionalism. This is NOT your typical restaurant in Puerto Rico. It’s even better, IMO. It really does feel like Chef Mercedes transplanted a SoHo locale to this address. The menu is an ode to modern riffs on Korean, Viet, Dominican, Puerto Rican, French and Japanese. All in one single menu. But it doesn’t feel forced. The plates are naturally integrated with these influences, with cheeky names and playful spins. Every single detail has been thought out. From playful hashiokis to rest your chopsticks; to bamboo Masu square cups used this time to keep my martini olives chilled. But the best? The ultimate attention to detail? An incredibly professional bartender who makes it a point to refresh your martini by exchanging your glass with a frozen one halfway through your libation. Such are the details that grant you access to my bartending hall of fame. Tonight I had a hamachi crudo and a wagyu tartare. Superlative presentation, quality and freshness. I have a soft spot for envelop pushers like SatoFino, especially in a bustling food scene saturated with amazing options, and pressed with the always challenging business environment of the island. But that is a different topic. Hey, I believe every day presents you with an option of what experience you want to have. For me, SatoFino is that place where absent a layover option in New York City, is where I come to experience a super creative menu, with beaming smiles and a flow few other places give you. Keep at it, SatoFino!

Spinach dumpling with braised goat, four spice goat cheese, goat stew with rum. Perfection. Duck lettuce wraps with a passion fruit sauce. Perfectly flavored and light. Corn ice cream with a mascarpone. 10/10 presentation, not sweet, light, hella unique. Out of this world perfect meal. Karen, the bartender couldn’t have been more wonderful! Made great wine and good recommendations and was a joy to chat with.

Truly a life-changing meal. Take your friends/family/dates here if you want to impress them. Kelly and Maria are artisans, and are experts at their craft. I haven’t seen any other chefs with their level of creativity, and unique recipes. They were so welcoming to my large bachelorette group from the start, and made everything feel special. My friends could not stop talking about this experience all weekend!! MUST ORDERS: KFC Tendies (spicy yum!), Nuong Xa with pork, tostones, and Cabrito Dumplings

Spectacular, great-tasting food, tasty cocktails, and very good service. Losing one star because the $23 Cabrito Dumplings had little to no meat or cheese, and the dough was undercooked. Everything else was excellent.

The restaurant was beautiful inside, though I was a little cold... I loved the dumplings 1] because they were unique, 2] they tasted just as lovely as Din Tai Fung, and Gyôza at my favorite restaurant back home, and 3] I loved how they had fried goat cheese in the A Lo Worhol (an Asian fusion soup rendition of a Caprese salad). I also loved the Daniel Daniel Noodles because they kind of made me like spicy food. The service was wonderful. The head chef (María Mercedes) and waitress (Christina) were extraordinarily polite and took very good care of us. I never could’ve been happier! 🥹 -- my son
