Khao Soi Mae Sai
★ 4.5 · 5,946 reviews Chiang Mai Opened Opening date unknown
Bib Gourmand khao soi, no frills, no seats to spare
One dish, done right: soft egg noodles topped with a crispy fried tangle, all sitting in a coconut curry broth that's rich without tipping into spicy. Pick chicken or beef and you're set.
There's no menu to browse and no waiter to flag down. It's a cash-only counter shop in Santitham, and Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand for it. Ask five Chiang Mai regulars for their khao soi benchmark and this bowl comes up more than once.
Good to know
- Best at lunch; like most khao soi shops it can sell out and close early.

Guys the hype is so real. Really delicious, flavorful, creamy khao soi. Noodles were soft and hand made, spicy but nothing a cold thai tea can’t balance. Get the chicken!!! I liked it better than the pork. For two bowls and two thai teas, the total was 150 baht. That’s like $4.50. INSANE. I also went to Khao Soi Khun Yai, but this is by far the best. It’s not even a competition. I think it might just be my favorite meal the entire trip.

Great food quick service. Nice local looking spot good atmosphere with plenty of tourists around. There’s usually a queue outside, but the ticket system is organised, and tables turn over quickly. Deeply aromatic curry broth, food is delicious with an unbeatable price.

This restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide and serves good khao soi. The soup is rich and flavorful and you can choose your preferred type of meat. The price is reasonable. It can get very crowded in the afternoon, so I recommend going in the morning to avoid long queues. They accept cash and Thai bank transfer is available only for bills over 150 baht. There is no parking, you may need to park along the street or use paid parking across the road (around 20–30 baht). There’s also no waiting area, so if it’s busy, you’ll need to stand and wait outside.

Hands down the best khao soi I've ever had. A bit spicier than I thought. But don't mind sweating buckets for something so delish. Iced coffee was good too. But I don't really know for sure. I needed it to help me thru the heat of the day and the khao soi. Hahaha. One serving is not enough. Maybe already order two bowls. If you think you're hungry. I had another not spicy option hahah. Was really happy we tried this. ❤️ Loved the ambience by the way. Place was clean and well lit/bright even. But loved how the sun hugs the place. We were lucky there weren't any lines when we came. Lots of locals eating so you know you're into something good.

฿150 ($4.56 USD) for 2 khao soi chicken, Thai tea, & lemon Thai tea. This place came highly recommended by travel vloggers. It’s Michelin rated for the last 4 years. Grandmas cooking up the food on the side and the host is organized. When you arrive, you grab a pager number and wait to be seated. You may end up sharing a table! You order on a paper and they bring the food out quickly. The khao soi chicken was delicious. Slightly spicy but nothing too crazy. The Thai tea was so good and refreshing (different from Thai milk tea). For ฿55 you can’t go wrong. It’s a decent portion size and I was satisfied!
