Sushi, stir-fry and ramen from the Murasaki team

Maguro is the sushi counter that also does a full dinner menu. Rolls and sashimi sit next to stir-fry and ramen, so it works for a quick weeknight bowl or a slower night out. The team behind Murasaki in Arden runs this second spot downtown.

It's on Biltmore Avenue near Charmed Boutique and White Duck Taco Shop, right in the stretch of downtown that's quietly filled up with small independent restaurants.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Food: a clear, deeply flavorful miso soup to start. The menu is exciting, they had combinations I hadn't seen before. I got my favorites, tamago sashimi and eel sushi, both were so tender and tasty. Then the bluefin platter, so I could try three types of top-grade tuna I hadn't tried before. The presentation was a work of art. And it doesn't need a mortgage to pay for. Excellent sake choices too, all the way to top-shelf options. Environment: excellent bar to sit at, and walk-ins are welcome. A warm welcome as soon as you walk in, and attentive service throughout. Clean, sexy environment with the low hum of chefs chopping and slicing, plates clacking, and people talking. Relaxing. It's cool without being frigid AC cold, and a relaxing break if you've been bopping around all day. Parking: you can park on the street, or pop into the parking garage and walk through the side door on the ground level. It comes out right in front of Maguro's entrance.

Love this restaurant. Staff is always the best. Not only is the food great tasting but beautifully plated in artist design. Everything is very tasty. Sushi is always a win. We had the Maguro and the Thomas Wolf. Along with bang bang shrimp.

My girlfriend and I were visiting downtown Asheville for a few days and decided to satisfy a sushi craving one evening. We eat sushi regularly, and since my girlfriend is Japanese, we like to think we have a pretty good sense of what makes a great sushi experience. We ordered the Imperial Platter for Two, and it exceeded our expectations. The combination of sashimi, nigiri, a rainbow roll, and a spicy tuna roll was not only delicious but also an incredible value for the price. The presentation was beautiful, and the platter even included two miso soups. We chose seats at the sushi bar, and the entire experience from the food to the atmosphere and service was excellent. Our only disappointment is that we don't have Maguro back home!

Beautiful, warm, elevated and authentic atmosphere. Option to sit at the sushi bar or the table with plenty of menu items. The two of us devoured a couple of sushi rolls and shared a black garlic ramen that we couldn’t quite finish because we were so full. Absolutely recommend trying this place out.
