Indian food finally lands in North Asheville's old Barrel House

Samosas and tikka masala now share a room with the beer taps that made this corner famous. Saffron India kept the Barrel House's craft beer bones and layered a full Indian menu on top, saag paneer and fresh naan included, cocktails still pouring.

The weekday lunch buffet is the move if you want to try everything without committing to one dish. North Asheville had been asking for a real Indian kitchen for years, and this one filled the gap fast.

Best Indian food in Asheville! We stopped by for a carryout. Ordered tandoori, chicken, Pac, paneer, chicken, vindaloo, okra, and it was all fabulous! The spice levels were on point, and they even gave us extra tikka masala sauce for the tandoori chicken. It was ready quickly and pretty much the best Indian food we’ve had in a long time. We live in Greenville and usually go up to Asheville to get our Indian food fix. This is a new place for us and we will return!

My family of 5 dined here today for Father's Day. Good thing we had a reservation as it was hopping!! It was our first dining experience here and we were delighted. The food delicious. The buffet was full and clean. The service was efficient and with a smile. We will absolutely be eating here regularly. We love Indian food and are excited to have a place close to home!

We came here on vacation, and after a long day didn’t really want to deal with downtown Asheville. Fortunately my better half had this on her restaurant list, we saw it was NOT downtown, so we went. Man, are we glad we did!! The food was outstanding, easily a match for the several Indian restaurants we rotate among back home. This is based on a sample size of ONE dish, so keep that in mind. We got palak paneer, which came with a large bowl of rice, the size of which we don’t normally see. Also got a nice basket of plain naan. This was simply great!! We typically judge an Indian restaurant by their palak or saag paneer, and are happy to say this place did a great job. We will absolutely be coming here again next time we’re in town!!

I heard from friends that they had a great meal at saffron house. And even though I know they have great tastes and a high bar I was pleasantly surprised on how good the food was! I’ve eaten Indian food all over this country, in England, and in India - where I spent many many months - traveling all over the country. And this is some of the best Indian food I’ve eaten here in the USA. I hope you all enjoy it just as much as I did! And that they’ll be around cooking this delicious food for us for a long time

We have eaten at Saffron 4 or 5 times now. The service is always friendly and fast. The food has been superb each time. We will get a variety of dishes between us and sample all of them. We always have too much and end up bring some home to enjoy later. Our favorite seems to be the Chicken Biryani which comes with raita, a cool cucumber/yogurt sauce that is delicious. Their various naans are delicious. They have meat dishes and also vegan dishes.
