A seafood-and-Italian crew tries Chinese-American, counter-service style

The Scheffer Group built its name on Jettie Rae's seafood and Vinnie's red sauce. Now they're doing Chinese-American classics at a counter in the old Musician's Workshop space on Merrimon Avenue, and it's their first spot in North Asheville.

The sign alone got the neighborhood talking before the doors even opened. Worth a look if you know the group's other places and want to see the range.

We had high expectations and were sadly disappointed but we know they just opened so we'll try again. Hoping this feedback will help. We did take out and ordered the orange chicken and the crispy orange and both had an odd flavor, were overly salty and the orange beef broccoli was very undercooked.

Absolutely amazing food! We ordered half the menu for takeout and not a single thing disappointed! The egg rolls were to die and the orange chicken was amazing! Being that it has only been open a few weeks, we called in at 3 and made a reservation for takeout at 5:30. I know this will get better as they find their groove! I'm just very excited to have high quality American Chinese in Ashville! Keep up the great work!

Have ordered takeout twice since they opened. Everything is delicious. Worth the wait time. Highly recommend! Leftovers hit just as hard the next day. 🙌🏼

A delicious addition to town with amazing, hardworking staff!! I loved the lo mein and salt and pepper shrimp. Please keep an open mind when going to a brand new restaurant, the 1 star review keyboard warriors are very harsh.

We tried the crab rangoons, shrimp lo mein, & the general tso’s chicken & rice. Everything was extremely sweet (in a bad way). I was so excited to find a new restaurant with “authentic, NY-style chinese food,” but this isn’t it. It’s overpriced with a fancy takeout box & a cute atmosphere. Beijing Chinese takeout is way more flavorful than this is, at half the price.
