Asheville Forager

The grocery store downtown finally got
Wall Street's old Asheville Emporium space is now a market, deli counter, bakery and butcher rolled into one, and it's stocked with local vendors instead of national brands. Downtown had zero walkable grocery options for years. This fixes that.
Swing by early for coffee and pastry, or midday for a deli sandwich. It works as both a grocery run for residents and a lunch stop, which explains why it joined the Asheville Independent Restaurant Association so fast.

I’ve done a full 180 on this spot—I visited early on before they had honed in their operation, but they have really improved the quality of their sandwiches and service. This is an essential need for making downtown feel like an actual walkable neighborhood where people live—a friendly deli grocer with no frills. Please visit, we need them to survive on Wall Street!

I work downtown and my whole office loves Asheville Forager. The prices are so affordable and the food is delicious. We also get them to cater company events. They are always super responsive to our requests and make such good sandwich platters for us! They have great vegetarian options as well.

Had so much fun shopping here! The store isn’t huge, but it’s packed with local treasures and unique finds. I know a lot of people come for the sandwiches, but I ended up leaving with local pickles, mustard, and some absolutely amazing bread. This is exactly the kind of place I love discovering when I travel—full of local flavor and products you won’t find everywhere else. Friendly, charming, and definitely worth a stop!

This place is the real deal. Asheville forager is famous for their subs (and I get them everytime) but dont sleep on their bread, meats, and cheeses! They carry high quality, local meats. Bought two dry aged steaks to cook for valentine's day and that was some good stuff. Their bread is perfect for sandwiches or to just munch on by itself. Their ham, turkey, and gouda is fantastic! One tip i would recommend is to bring a tote bag when visiting! Edit: I heard from the staff they hired a new pastry chef and I just want to say I bought a couple of the new chefs pastries and its absolutely amazing. Now not only am I coming for all my sub, meat, cheese and bakery needs. Im going to need to reserve some funds for the pastries! They are amazing and definitely deserve a shout out!
