Japanese-Peruvian cooking on Tyler Street, open since January 2026.

Nikkei cooking has been thin on the ground in Boston, so Nohri opening on Tyler Street in January 2026 filled a real gap. Japanese technique, Peruvian ingredients, mostly small plates.

Tyler Street is one of Chinatown's narrower runs, and the room matches it in size. Two people at the counter is the best way to eat here.

I was very excited to finally try Nohri! They don't take reservations, so we showed up a few minutes before 5pm on a Saturday. There was a line of around 3 parties, and we all got seated once the it opened. There is limited seating, so the restaurant filled up soon after 5pm. After comparing the a la carte items to the omakase, we decided to go with the a la carte in order to be able to try more dishes. We basically ordered the entire menu other than some items we weren't interested in. Delicious, would get again - The chawanmushi ($11) was perfectly smooth and savory. I was worried it would be sweet because of the "caramel", but it was more of a deep roasted flavor rather than sweetness. The crab meat was a tasty treat that paired well with the egg. - The halibut miso soup ($8) was surprisingly delicious. The soup was flavorful and savory and the torched fish was very tender with a smoky flavor. - The toro hand roll ($12) was definitely our favorite fish. Great quality, so smooth and rich. And cheaper than other toro hand rolls we've had. - The kombujime kampachi ($16) had an addictively tasty sauce. My only complaint would be that the flavor did not get transferred to the thick cuts of fish -- I think it should be served with a spoon so you can properly get all of the flavors in one bite. Good, might get again - The aburi hamachi hand roll ($11) and the spicy tuna hand roll ($9) had really interesting flavors - The spicy salmon hand roll ($9) was not as memorable as the two above but was still good. - The salmon tiradito ($16) had a really cool passion fruit sauce, but it was too thin to stick to the thick cuts of salmon. We did some utensil gymnastics with the spoon from another dish to try to get more sauce in each bite. Meh, wouldn't get again - The ceviche ($16) was not bad, but we didn't like the starchy corn and it was overall not notable. - The beef tartare ($12) hand roll was weird and tasted like cheese. - The scallop hand roll ($12) was fresh and tender but didn't stand out amongst the other items with bold flavors. - The koji crab hand roll ($12) tasted like mayonnaise. Overall there were some really memorable dishes that we would definitely come back for. The crudos had really inventive and tasty flavors, but it was difficult to get those flavors into/onto the fish. This was a really fun dining experience. The prices aren't crazy and the flavors are really special.

I am normally hesitant with fusion restaurants…but NOHRI blew me away! WOW! Got the Nohri 6 Tasting for $45, and an extra eel roll which was $11 if I recall. Each roll is about 2 glorious bites. Each one was with flavor and balance. I loved the lime and cilantro incorporations, and the pickled wasabi dust on the scallops. Also the curry flavor on the salmon was just sooo deliciously spicy! We enjoyed our whole experience from start to finish! Only disappointment was that for the chawanmushi we had crab topping instead of uni, and that combo was the one we’ve seen blasted all over TikTok. But maybe we will just call ahead next time before we inevitably come back again! It’s definitely worth more than a single visit! Btw, we went on a Wednesday at around 5 and got seated right away!

Creative and delicious hand rolls with unique flavors thanks to the Peruvian x Japanese fusion concept. The chawanmushi was a 100/10, probably the best I’ve ever had! Really loved the steak tartare cigar with egg yolk. Hamachi collar (part of the tasting set of 8) was also perfection. Great sake selection. Would come back for date night or a fun night with friends!

incredible. I got the Nohri 8 tasting menu and was amazed at every step. The Peruvian fusion influence was apparent in the ambience: decor, music, silverware. Truly the epitome of casual fine dining. FAVORITES Spicy Tuna - biggest surprise of the night. I usually don’t like spicy tuna because it feels cheap (and sometimes isn’t tuna). This was not your college sushi joint sriracha mayo spicy tuna. This had insane depth and heat, using red curry as a seasoning base. Chawanmushi - possible ethical concerns aside, this is a truly unique umami bomb. Unagi is kind of the foie gras of fish so makes sense to combine the two. Deep, salty, savory flan-type texture Aburi Hamachi - I just love pomelos so I might be biased but MAN perfect balance. But truly they were all delicious which makes picking a favorite even more fun. You’ll leave happy.

Felt welcome from start to finish! Arrived 15 minutes early and there was already a small line. Pace was good, and enjoyable tasting menu (sufficiently filling imo too). Service was great. Thank you, Nohri!
