The Lowline Hotel

South Carolina's first JdV by Hyatt, rebuilt from a Hyatt Place shell

A standard-issue Hyatt Place box on upper King Street got gutted and turned into something worth booking. The Lowline reopened as the first JdV by Hyatt in South Carolina, Hyatt's lifestyle label, with a name that nods to the flat low end of the peninsula it sits on.

It has an indoor pool, rare for downtown Charleston, and a 24-hour gym. Marion Square is a few minutes south, the King Street restaurant strip is outside the door, and The Cooper and Live Oak both opened within a mile the same summer.

Good to know

  • The indoor pool is one of the few in downtown Charleston that stays usable in January.
  • Upper King's bar strip starts at the front door, so ask for a room off the street side.

Staff was very welcoming and helpful in helping me rebook another night because flights were canceled due to weather. Front desk went out of their way to provide me with a bag of ice for an ice bath after my half marathon. Roof top bar is amazing, though it was cold the ciders made up for it and great view

Great location but they don't have self parking so be ready to pay over $40 a day in parking. Rooms are small and dogs are allowed so you'll hear and smell dogs during your visit. The breakfast is like a scene from FEMA during hurricane relief, poor quality food, crazy and disorganized.

My family and I love the Hyatt Place! We come multiple times a year to enjoy the beautiful city of Charleston. The location of the Hyatt is perfect and we can easily walk to all of the sights and shops. During our last trip we had a question about our bill. The manager took an abundance of time to research our question, address it, and make sure we were completely satisfied with the situation. He went above and beyond to make sure we were happy! If you are looking for a great hotel at a fair price - book at the Hyatt!

The staff was very nice and helpful. You can tell that part of the hotel is under construction, but the room looked exactly like the pictures. The rooftop bar was amazing—great food and a fun, unique experience. There were so many beers and hard ciders on tap, along with liquor and wine, plus games available to play. Breakfast the next morning was well stocked and never ran out.

The hotel offers a peaceful and relaxing environment from the moment you walk in, the concierge/front desk was really nice. The facilities are well maintained, and both the room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. The bed was very comfortable, and I enjoyed a quiet, uninterrupted night of sleep — something I truly value when traveling. The breakfast was very good, offering fresh and satisfying options to start the day tea- coffee, warm breakfast, cereals.... The hotel’s excellent location near the airport made travel incredibly convenient without sacrificing comfort or quiet. Overall, this hotel delivered cleanliness, comfort, and convenience. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a restful and well-located place to stay.
