Joyland

Sean Brock's third Charleston restaurant
Sean Brock built his name on heirloom grains, foraged produce and house-cured meats at Husk and McCrady's. Joyland is him circling back to that playbook rather than repeating it.
It landed at the King and Calhoun corner that filled out fast in 2025, alongside Babylon and Madison Maison. Go in expecting the deep ingredient research his other spots are known for, just aimed somewhere new.

Not Sean Brock’s best endeavor. I’ve ordered it for delivery a few times hoping Joyland would eventually get it correct once. Instructions are often ignored (add pickles, sauce on side, etc.). The fries have never hit the mark. Neither the curly nor crinkle fries have been anything more than fast food … often cold, undercooked, inconsistent portions… and served with a lonely single ketchup package. Beyond the burgers and fries I’ve tried the breakfast, milkshakes, and even the Chicago Dog. Still no wow factor. I keep trying Joyland hoping to be wowed, but it’s consistently nothing special.

Love the old school diner vibes, all the colors are very pleasing on the vibes. Shoutout to Zaniel for the great service, was super chill and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious, the patties were cooked just right for me and the cheese was nice and gooey. Will definitely stop by again.

A great casual burger spot right off King Street. We ordered two junior deluxe burgers with curly fries. The employee (I wish we got his name) was kind enough to bring us one of each of their signature sauces. I loved getting to try all of the sauces in combination with the curly fries. Amazing service and a great meal. It’s a perfect stop if you want something quick, satisfying, and casual while exploring downtown. I would definitely come back.

So happy I finally tried Joyland today after work. I’m gluten intolerant and the chef was very knowledgeable about what I could and couldn’t eat. I had a crustburger and crinkle fries. I’m planning to go back for the GF biscuits!!!

First of all, the cold brew, chef's kiss. Phenomenal🎉. The lady who made it, kudos. I asked for chocolate in my cold brew and she could have said no due to doing a little extra work. But she did it and it was scrumptious. The food was also very delectable. The fries were made right with the sauce which is the cherry on top. The burger was good too! I will say, I am a saucy girl, so if you could add more sauce to the burger, that would be great. But overall, really good food, the employees were really nice and considerate. The atmosphere is almost like a 50s diner. The music choices were also really good (90s-early 2000s music). I will say, if you could mix more of like newer songs too, that would be cool. Generally though, really cool restaurant, would go again.
