A Mexico City love letter on Westheimer

Xolo skips the Tex-Mex playbook most Houston spots lean on and goes straight for Mexico City instead, agave spirits and all. By day it's a cafe. By night, in the old Pling Dumpling space, it turns into a cocktail bar and restaurant.

The agave-driven cocktail program is the real draw here, sharper and more specific than the food side. It soft-opened in early February before the full launch on March 2, giving the kitchen a running start before the crowds hit.

Amazing cocktails, service and extreme refinement! Highly recommend the pulpo! (Tallas were just standard)

Atmosphere: 8/10 Sitting on Westheimer between Montrose and Midtown, Xolo brings the energy and craft of Mexico City's cocktail scene to Houston. The space is modern and funky with a cool, considered design—though the backbar is more functional than a visual centerpiece. Seating is plentiful, both at the bar and at tables. Music runs a touch loud. The concept is deeply personal: the owners cut their teeth at Mexico City institutions including Handshake Speakeasy and FoMa before channeling that CDMX polish into this new Houston home. Drinks: 9/10 Recommendation: Carajillo The menu is concise but executed with real intention. Drink selection is solid, flavors are well-balanced and precise. Nice coasters, above-average glassware, garnish is simple and clean. Presentation is neat throughout. Service: 9/10 Water served on arrival. The team is very friendly, professional, and attentive. No reservations needed. Prices run above average for Houston.

Very nice 1st visit. Shared 2 entrees well prepared with excellent sauces. Malbec was nice by glass it was the only by glass red choice. Im a Malbec fan Would be nice to see a couple of more red options by glass. Small venue suggest reservations we reserved on a Mon night for 730 by the time we were leaving tables were pretty much full. Small parking lot Valet only later in week would suggest ride share as this area has very limited street parking options. Typical of dining on lower Westheimer.

5 stars all the way for Chef Daniel, Elmis and the entire team at XOLO. Houston truly needed a concept like this. Every dish we had was phenomenal creative, flavorful, beautifully presented, and full of intention. You can really feel the Mexico City inspiration throughout the whole experience. The clarified cocktails were some of the best and most unique drinks I’ve had in Houston. Smooth, balanced, innovative, and honestly unforgettable. The food matched that same level of excellence from start to finish. Beyond the food and drinks, the atmosphere, hospitality, and attention to detail made the night even better. Huge congratulations to Chef Daniel on this new opening definitely one of Houston’s newest gems and I can’t wait to come back.

One-of-a-kind experience that's worth every penny. welcoming and informed staff, both cocktails and food were great, with the staff explaining every taste profile. Can't wait to be back to try some other cocktails.
