Mexico City's Grupo Ikigai brings its sushi bar to Brickell Key

Brothers Juan José and José María Xacur run some of Mexico City's best-known Japanese restaurants; they opened Ikigai on Brickell Key on 3 March 2025, their first outside Mexico.

The menu covers sashimi, nigiri and an omakase, with a cocktail list that leans on Japanese spirits. Open daily until 10.30pm. Garage validation is available, worth knowing on an island with no street parking.

Went for the tuna ceremony. Very fun to see the big fish and process of cutting. Tuna was 24h old. And felt overall fresh. Food was great as well as service. Price was $180 per person and included the whole course show in the pics.

I honestly have no words to describe this place. This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Miami!!!!!!!! Everything was exceptional, from the service to the quality of every dish. The owner personally came to check in, which made the experience feel even more special. The kampachi sashimi was hands down my number one favorite, absolutely out of this world. We also loved the tempura shrimp, and the fresh wasabi prepared at the table really shows the level of care and quality. We finished with a matcha cake, and honestly, I couldn’t pick a favorite because everything was incredible. The price was also more than fair for the quality. Already excited to come back. If you’re in Miami and love sushi, this place is a must. 100% recommend🤤🤤😍😍❤️❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻

I had the chance to visit Ikigai Sushi Bar, and the experience confirms why this place is getting so much attention. Sitting at the counter, you can really appreciate the care that goes into every preparation. From the sashimi served like a delicate flower, beautifully presented and fresh, to the creative rolls, everything reflects precision and respect for the ingredients. I also tried the spiced edamame, a tuna hand roll, and several rolls with bold sauces that balance the fresh fish very nicely. One detail I really enjoyed was the contrast between classic Japanese technique and subtle Latin touches. The flavors are slightly more vibrant, the sauces have character, and the combinations carry an intensity that connects very well with the Latin palate while still keeping the elegance of Japanese cuisine. Even the mochi ice cream at the end keeps that delicate Japanese touch that rounds out the experience. The atmosphere at the sushi bar is intimate, minimalist, and perfect for conversation. It feels more like a culinary experience than just another sushi restaurant. Wishing the team continued success. Places like this truly add something special to the Brickell dining scene.
