Tokyo's Michelin-starred Oniku Karyu opens its first restaurant outside Japan
Karyu is the first restaurant outside Tokyo from Oniku Karyu, which holds a Michelin star in Japan. Spicy Hospitality Group brought it to the Design District, with interiors by Rockwell Group. The format is wagyu kaiseki, a set progression built around beef rather than fish.
The meat comes from Ueda Chikusan, a family ranch in Hyōgo Prefecture that sells to no other restaurant in the United States. Ten seats, one sitting. Book early.

Outstanding experience! The service was incredible and really personal. Jean-Pierre is extremely attentive to details and encourages conversation between the intimate party. I mentioned at one point during a conversation with the couple next to us about a song I loved a lot and the night continued normally until, at the dessert time, the lights turned off and the song started playing. Really felt like a superstar. Food wise - the tasting menu is so original and extremely high quality, definitely a bucket list experience to have. Great place to impress someone !

I had a bumpy experience to finalize my reservation but it was worth it. Jean Pierre was incredible and helped me throughout the entire process so I could experience the KARYU cuisine for my 10 year anniversary with my husband. We had an amazing experience with Aki and the chief and the young gentleman who helped us with our drinks. The food was incredible and we ordered extra plates. The sake and whiskey pair deliciously. Highly recommend this restaurant!

This place is one of the few places you can actually experience a true Japanese dining experience. The host, to every single person running this establishment is top of the line and all are great at everything they do. I was not asked to write this review and I don’t usually write any reviews but this place deserves the best of the best from us and hopefully Miami will recognize this place as one of the top japanese establishments in Miami. Jean Pierre was a great host and improved this experience greatly, as well as the main chef did an amazing job, and Aki is a gem of this place. There’s not many places I’d recommend but this is a place should come to. Thank you Karyu

This dining experience was like no other I’ve ever had. First of all, the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and transports you straight to Japan! While I was in there, it truly didn’t feel like Miami, so if you want to get away for a few hours, this is the place. The service is outstanding, Jean and Aki are fantastic and explain each course and how you should eat it as it comes out. You can tell they have a strong background in the industry, they really make the experience what it is! Now for the food, I can say this is probably these are the best meals I’ve ever had. The Wagyu melts in your mouth and each course is so unique, you won’t get anything like it anywhere else in Miami. My favorite was the curry dish, if I could, I’d eat it every day. Hiroshi, the chef, is extremely talented, there was not a single course I didn’t enjoy. I’m already planning the next time I’m going back. 10/10 all around.
