The James Beard-winning table on Nicollet Avenue

A neighborhood corner spot doesn't usually turn into the most talked-about table in the country. Bûcheron did. Chef Adam Ritter built the menu on the technical precision he learned at Bellecour, then loosened it up with Minnesota warmth.

The payoff came fast. In 2025, the James Beard Foundation named it Best New Restaurant, a national honor for a French American spot that still feels like South Minneapolis.

We've been here a couple of times now, and it's always phenomenal. The food is incredible, and I would absolutely recommend the crudo, pommes dauphines, and dinner rolls as starters to share. For mains, I've had the American wagyu filet and could have it every time I'm there, but the sweet potatoes and pork loin are delicious as well. The desserts are second to none, and I would encourage people to make sure they get something at the end of the meal—even if you just need to share it with the table just to try it. For drinks, I'm a self-described wine person, and their wine list is one of the best in the Twin Cities. I also can't speak more highly of the staff's knowledge regarding the wine list and pairings. Every person we've had as our server (most recently Adriana, who was awesome) has been thoughtful and engaging when discussing wine with us. The list has versatility across a number of dishes and price points, making it more accessible than what I'm used to seeing at a restaurant of this caliber, but they also have plenty of classic, high-end restaurant wines for people looking for that as well. Plus there are some more "interesting" picks as well that allow people like me to experiment a bit if I want to. I'll wrap up this review by highlighting the service staff. Everyone is great! They are attentive but not overbearing, and friendly in a way that shows how much they genuinely love what they do. They truly make what is already top-notch food and drink into a memorable dining experience across the board!

Such a great experience! The chicken entree, sweet potato entree, pommes, and lobster pasta were MUSTs. I wouldn’t get the shrimp or the gnudi again. The crudo was also good! Didn’t get pics of dessert but get the banana pudding. Overall so delicious. Highly recommend and excited to go back and try more things on the menu!!

Amazing experience from start to finish. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and such a joy to have around. The food was amazing, with the pommes dauphines, spaghetti, and the banana pudding being the highlights for us. The space is small and the tables are close together, so keep that in mind if you’re not used to that. It did get a bit loud with several groups dining at the same time, but honestly, the food was so good that it didn’t take away from the experience. We will definitely be back.

One of the better experiences I’ve had dining out in a while. Was pouring rain and I had a patio reservation so I called and asked if they would be able to squeeze me in inside. Host said not a problem. I arrived and the restaurant was hopping so I didn’t expect to be seated right away. Was sat at the bar, where Tyler, the GM promptly walked me through the menu in amazing detail. Ordered the foie and chicken dishes. Both amazing. Also had some amazing conversation with the bar tender. Everyone was so attentive and welcoming and the food and drink were top notch!

I think Bucheron is overhyped. Our food was pretty good and the service was excellent but I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed with the overall experience. When we walked in we were hit with an overwhelming odor of urine that lingered throughout the meal. I wish we had asked to sit outside. I don’t care how good the food is, it isn’t super enjoyable if you feel like you’re eating in a portapotty. The foie gras was good but I think there was more butter/fat in it than actual chicken liver. It ate more like a chicken liver flavored butter than like a terrine which it claimed to be on the menu. The venison tartare was also good but it was served slightly chilled rather than cold and while the flavor was nice, almost room temperature raw meat isn’t super enjoyable. The lobster spaghetti and Wagyu flatiron were delicious and I wish we had just gotten those and skipped the apps. Our server was great. She was super friendly and helped me pick out a drink when I was being indecisive and it was very good. However, the experience was ruined for us because the table seated inches away from us was so loud and obnoxious we could hardly hold a conversation ourselves. I know the restaurant can’t control that but that is a risk you run when you place tables so close together. Considering the bill was over $300 for two people, I’d expect a more upscale atmosphere. I’m not from the area but I would not see myself returning here if I was. This was a rare miss for James Beard.
