Japanese-Creole breakfast on the Rock Block
Verna opened on Louise Avenue in August 2025 in the middle of the Rock Block, calling itself an all-day cafe with a Japanese-Creole streak. Breakfast carries the menu: miso corn cake with yuzu kosho butter, matcha ginger baby cakes, a banana pudding latte that should not work.
A dive bar called Connie is planned for the back of the building. Until it opens, the crowd here is laptops until noon and a different one after.

Cajun AND Japanese? I had to check it out. SO, happy that I did. (You should too) Crawfish Hand Pie is on point. The Summet Corn Cake is fabulous as well. Cappuccino prepared perfectly Pleasant, efficient service. Can't really ask for more. I am already planning to come back and try more of this well thought out perfectly executed short menu.

We absolutely LOVED Verna. In the old Cafe Coco space, Verna feels so much more cozy and cool. We went during happy hour on a Friday night - we expected to stop by for one drink, but had such a good time we stayed for dinner and more drinks! The food was a standout - crab rangoon melt (delicious and shockingly light), curry fries, and the crawfish pastry. We had spritzes and martinis and they were all wonderful. Love the drink menu - the amaro emphasis is thoughtful and unique. Awesome playlist and the bartender was phenomenal. . We can't wait to be back!

A quick walk from Vanderbilt to this adorable and delicious place. We were there for Saturday brunch and everything was great! Service was friendly and attentive. Food was fresh, flavorful and hot. Highly recommend trying this place out whether you’re a local or visiting the area.

We had the pleasure of eating brunch here several times and also enjoyed drinks in the front bar in the evenings. Brunch is very tasty with excellent service, delicious coffee (the banana latte both iced and hot are to die for), and entrees that didn’t disappoint (we loved the steak fried rice, baby cakes as an appetizer, and the Nola rice cakes). In the evening, the bar tender was one of the best we’ve had in Nashville, making whiskey drinks off the menu for my husband and his newest strawberry gin drink was both refreshing and delicious….so are the palomas. Huge parking lot next door was a bonus as well as the outdoor seating options so we could bring our dog. Definitely worth a trip to midtown to experience the cool vibes at Verna!

An absolute gem in Nashville. Loved the food and drinks and the gorgeous building. The clay artist who design this bungalow was fantastic and some features are unique to this building alone. The owner Bo was friendly and accommodating. Go check it out, Lqbtgia friendy and dog friendly. Thanks!
