An all-day Sicilian cafe where Ferdinando's stood
Ferdinando's Focacceria held this Union Street corner for decades. Bar Ferdinando replaced it in March 2026, keeping the name and the Sicilian register while changing almost everything about the format.
It runs all day now: pastries in the morning from a pastry chef who came via Radio Bakery and Pitt's, Sicilian dishes through the middle, cocktails at the end of it. Carroll Gardens lost a landmark and got back something that trades on it honestly.

Favorite place I've been to this year. The place is small but comfortable and cozy. The aesthetics make you feel like you are dining in a lovely café in Italy 🇮🇹 . The service is amazing. I had the Clams over French Fries. It was delicious 😋. The Fries soak up the juices from the Clams and then add to it some Lemon and it's Chef's Kiss. It comes with an Aioli on the side for the Fries but I barely used it. The Negroni with Olive was very good. The music playing transports you to another place and time. The prices are very reasonable. I can't wait to come back. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was with the same family for 120 years and was recently sold to Sal, who is keeping the menu and restaurant as is. I wish them another 120 years.

First time here since new ownership (and we frequent their other neighborhood spots). Everything we had was amazing. Pane e panelle, arancini and the tomato martini. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely go there!

Everything here is incredible, especially the (must order) panelle sandwich and the prosciutto sandwich. The interior decor harkens to old Brooklyn and Sicily at the same time. I can't wait until the backyard opens and I would love if they would consider serving granita or cannolis

The pane e panelle with ricotta was superb!! Be advised that there is new owner and menu. Hope they add the pasta dishes again in the future.

Thankful that a neighborhood gem was revived. The spot feels very European - cafe/bar more than full-meal restaurant. And that’s a good thing. The inside was very well designed. And the staff was top notch, especially the octogenarian working the front of the house :)
