A tortilleria and bakery from the Corima team

The tortilla is the main event here, not the wrapper. Lard-laced and pressed in house, it holds up pollo en mole, braised pork shoulder, and eggs with burnt ends at this Park Slope spot from the team behind Michelin-starred Corima.

The bakery case is worth the trip alone: cinnamon rolls and conchas with a crackly crust and sweet yuzu crème. There's a small patio out back. No reservations, and it closes mid-afternoon.

I seemed to only take photos of the pastries but also had the burrito. We arrived at 12:30pm to a busy but no line place on a Monday. Shared the chicharon and burnt ends burrito and boy they were amazing! Price is good for the quality of the fillings and freshly made wraps. The chicharon was my favourite with crunchy pork and filled with beans, my husband preferred the burnt ends well filled with egg and cheese.

Delicious food and really nice service. The outdoor eating space is great. Had the bbq burnt ends brisket and egg burrito. Filling and tasty. The hibiscus aqua fresca was light and refreshing.

My hot take as a former border resident — my burnt ends tortilla seemed to be missing its burnt ends. There was no trace of anything crispy. The brisket was cooked nicely but then smothered in sweet bbq sauce - why?! The churro was flavorful but the center was raw, thus it was mostly inedible. I also ordered a donut - it was overstuffed and also somehow flavorless. The salsa was nice. The iced coffee was mid. The staff was rude. Don’t think I’d return.

The burnt ends breakfast burrito is so flavorful and the sourdough tortillas are so soft! We also tried the cinnamon roll which was one of the best I’ve had. I loved the icing and felt it was the perfect ratio. There’s tables in the back and some outdoor seating as well. I believe they close once they sell out of their tortillas so be sure to come early.

I've tried the Verde burrito which is braised pork should in salsa verde with potatoes and it was delicious. It's savory heavy for sure, the pork was tender and juicy and the salsa verde was spicy but not too spicy, y'know? This morning we had some time to spare so my husband and I stopped in to grab some breakfast. We got the burnt ends egg & cheese which has hickory-mesquite smoked brisket, soft scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese. This one was not my favorite because I'm not a big fan of bbq/smoky flavors. If you add some salsa verde on it, the acidity helps to mute the smokiness of the brisket so I found that to be more tasty. I like the addition of eggs and cheese to this to make it more of a breakfast meal but the soft scrambling of the eggs with the brisket makes the whole burrito quite soggy and hard to pick up and eat without squeezing the juices out and all over the place. Would like it better if the eggs were cooked a little more just so that the whole tortilla wouldn't sag. The seating in the back is minimal and I particularly like their wide and comfortable wooden chairs. The concrete looking tables are cool but not rough and very smooth. Staff was nice and the pastry display was minimalist. Wish they offered regular conchas because I'm not into yuzu. But I intend to go back and try their other pastries though. The cinnamon roll and cookie looked really good. Based on what I’ve tasted, Vato is overhyped for what it currently offers. The food is delicious, but the menu is oversimplified with basic offerings, and the burritos are pricey at $12 to $13 each. Another reviewer mentioned they were slapped with an automatic tip to their order which is wild to even begin with. The staff are nice and you can tell that the whole place is clean and spotless. The chefs are presentable and look like they mean business. It's a well oiled machine, and I hear it can get insanely busy with lines out the door and down the block. I do recommend trying them out, and I will probably be a return customer but more than likely not a regular unless more appealing food items hit the scene. Fellow drivers, there's metered street parking. Hard to find a spot during school days, and during midday. Slightly easier during early morning hours like 8-9am.
