Kjun

Korean-Cajun cooking, now over two floors

Kjun's move to Lexington Avenue came with an extra floor, and the kitchen finally has room to stretch. The ground level works as a bar; the dining room above runs a proper tasting menu, up to $150 a head.

The Korean-Cajun line that made the original worth seeking out hasn't budged, and it's a narrower tightrope than it sounds. What's changed is the format: this is no longer a kitchen improvising around one cramped room.

Good to know

  • The upstairs tasting menu runs up to $150. The ground-floor bar is the cheaper way in.

Amazing experience. Who knew that Korean and Cajun food make such a good fusion. This is one of my top restaurants in nyc. Every dish was delicious, the ribs were super tender, and the Galbi grits top notch. The atmosphere is very nice as well. The service is also top tier and very good. I also appreciate the hand sanitizers placed at every table- more restaurants should do this.

It was a wonderful dining experience. David was very welcoming and attentive. The food was amazing. We loved the egg and caviar; the egg was so addictive. And the watermelon salad; it was so refreshing and perfect for the summer. Also, the seafood jajangmyeon that we thought was a fun take for whoever always has the dilemma of choosing jajangmyeon or jjampong because now it’s already become one dish. Will definitely come back to try more dishes.

Good service and good food. Got the japchae boudin balls which was delicious. The meat had an almost creamy consistency with the japchae adding a bit of a springy texture. The aioli dip helped cut through the meatiness of the balls. Also got the kjun chicken sando set with the gumbo. The chicken itself was very crispy with a well seasoned breading. Also came with remoulade, hot honey sauce and tomato kimchi to add to the sandwich which added a tangy and spicy flavor. The gumbo was lacking in flavor though.

KJUN is a Korean and Cajun fusion that is truly unique, but in a "Why didn't I ever think of that" kind of way! The carefully chosen balance of combined ingredients is not a clash of worlds, but rather an imagining of a merged world, one where your taste buds are not fighting to choose a flavor because they mesh so well you'll think it was always this way. From prime ingredients to surprising ones, this is not just a kitchen with cooks. This is culinary masterpieces at introductory prices, since the place is still relatively young. Mark my words... KJUN WILL GAIN FAME. Get in now while the prices haven't caught up to the inevitable demand. Pro tip: if it's on the menu, get the dessert that is strawberry cornbread short cake (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name, but describe it that way and they will know, and it's one of the pics)... BEST DESSERT OF MY LIFE.

Dinner at Kjun is so much fun! Good food, good vibe and good friends :) Recommended by Daniel Dae Kim, it doesn't disappoint! The main dishes especially bought out the sweet-spiciness Korean cooking and the spice-lacing, seafood forward in Creole/Cajun cuisine. The side dishes, however. were somewhat hit-or-miss. I am especially fond of the seafood jajang myun - it is not as saucy as the traditional Korean version , and it uses japchae (sweet potato noodle) rather than wheat noodles. The Kjun rendition is more refined - coated with squid ink and seasoned with fermented black bean sauce; it is savory, slightly chewy, total #umami bomb 😋 The kimchi Bloody Mary is super fun! I don't even remember when did I last time had a bloody mary tho I figured, why not?! There's kimchi juice in it! It came with a little crawfish on top ha! 10/10 for presentation 🦐 Service was good and the location on Lex has high ceilings and big windows. We got the table right by the window overlooking Lex Ave. Perfect for friends get together. Overall food was good, creative; however, as a banchan die-hard fan, the banchanes were quite a letdown. Hence the 3 stars. I shall be back and try the more Cajun leaning items on the menu.
