Trudie's Tavern: professional interior shot of venue

Trudie's Tavern

Gertrude's crew fills Buttermilk Channel's old shoes

Following a beloved neighbourhood restaurant is its own kind of pressure. The Gertrude's team took the Court Street space Buttermilk Channel held for years and reopened it in early 2026 as Trudie's Tavern.

The move is a bar and grill, not a reinvention: burgers, a raw bar, martinis, and latkes that give away where the kitchen's loyalties sit. Carroll Gardens got back roughly what it lost, wearing a new name.

Trudie’s is such a neighborhood gem. The food is incredible, the atmosphere on point, and the overall vibe is 5 stars. It somehow feels casual, yet upscale. Favorite dishes are the potato pancake and rotisserie cabbage. And do not skip on the Mai tai. Delicious, and OF COURSE served in the proper glass! Perfection.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here! Very kind people and great food. The burger was solid, we loved the cucumber salad & the carrot cake was delicious. Happy to have Trudy’s in the neighborhood.

The vibes? Immaculate. The service? Fantastic. The food? I would be lying if I said there wasn’t room for improvement but honestly very decent and a few standout items such as the swordfish and potato pancake. Given that they just opened, I think this place has great potential and is worth a visit

Really great neighborhood spot that is very well designed and thoughtfully curated. The menu was super thoughtful. I wanted to order everything, so will have to go back to for another visit to do so. The staff was really knowledgable, and paced the meal perfectly. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Instant neighborhood classic. The food is excellent and so is the overall vibe inside. We tried the oysters, pigs in a blanket, potato pancake, rotisserie chicken dinner and handkerchief egg noodles. Zero misses! The chicken was a standout — it came with a gravy that was slightly acidic and herbal, and I have thought about it often since trying it. It’s $38, which is a great value for two people.
