Sushi, grill and ramen near U of Portland
One kitchen, three menus. Sumo Sushi runs sushi rolls, grilled plates and ramen side by side, so your table can order a roll and a bowl without splitting into two orders.
University Park hasn't had much sit-down Japanese food nearby, and this fills that gap on N Whitaker Road. Casual, quick and built for students and the families who live in the surrounding blocks.

They’ve got an exclusively gluten free menu available, which is important to note! Just ask at the front. Good sushi here, very filling and delish :) food comes out on a robot, it’s a fun experience.

Went here for lunch and it's an incredible deal. Super friendly staff, fresh food, good selection, clean and happy to have an AYCE in the area which has been lacking spots. Did I mention how affordable? Oh and the robots are cute. Don't complain about the service charge 12% fee which they explain to you is the tip and operational... You can add more of a tip if you want but 12% is nothing really vs other places who automatically make u tip 18-20 percent while you bus your own tables and get your own food lol

Tempura shrimp and boba-type balls were great! So wash most everything else.

The food is good. The hot bar is something else with lots of protein options. The robots are cute but the wait staff was much better.

Sumo sushi has one of the best customer service I've ever experienced! I have ordered a few times to-go and sometimes they don't charge for some extra tempura shrimp or add a couple pieces of extra sushi. They are so nice and the food is wonderful! Hoping to dine in their restaurant soon but they are so great and I recommend them if you haven't been here yet!
