Timbri Hotel San Francisco

A failed hotel experiment reborn as SF's first Curio stay
The tower at 33 Turk Street had a rough start. It opened in 2022 as The LINE SF, a flatiron-style swing that stalled after the pandemic. Hilton's conversion kept the glass walls and angular rooms, adding soaking tubs and local minibars.
The Timbri opened January 3, 2025. It's San Francisco's first Curio Collection hotel, half a mile from Union Square and a block off Market Street.
Good to know
- Ask for a high floor: the floor-to-ceiling windows in the flatiron-shaped tower are the best thing about the rooms.
- Union Square is a half-mile walk up Market Street; the immediate block is still rough-edged Mid-Market, so know what you're booking.

We stayed at the Timbri for the July 4 weekend, 2026. The first thing you will notice as you are driving up is that right across the street is the Tenderloin area of San Francisco. I will let you look that up and draw your own conclusions. What made it interesting is that not once, not a single time over five (5) days, day or night, did anyone attempt to bother us in any way. So don't let the outside fool you. Inside, it was a bit spartan -an odd cross between light brutalism architecture and Norwegian simplicity. Still nice, though, but it's the reason for four-stars. That, and the elevator that wouldn't let us pick the first floor from the ninth-floor control screen. The rooftop restaurant was great, the staff wonderful, the drinks well-poured. We needed more substance than the ground-floor breakfast area, so we had a solid breakfast three times on the roof. To management: if you ever decide to get rid of those One Grind espresso machines in the rooms, I'll happily take a couple off your hands. That was a first for me, they were awesome, but they're from Australia and they haven't been produced for years. DMc Tour Guide -One Arm Jack's Grizzly Petting Zoo. P.S. If you're a Motley Crue fan, you'll be happy to know that the Crazy Horse is right next door to the back entrance on Market Street. Just an interesting factoid.

You guys should really do something about this rug. It's in the lobby and it's a first impression. I'm not sure if the photograph captures how gross it really is. Update: Unfortunately, the cleaning staff really dropped the ball on our final night. We had waved housekeeping off the day before because they wanted to clean while we were still in the room, so by the following day, we genuinely needed the room serviced. As we were leaving for the day, I spoke directly with the very nice housekeeper on our floor and explained that our room had not been cleaned in two days. She understood that we were heading out and said she’d be happy to take care of it that day. We returned around 7:30 p.m. to find that the room had not been touched. After a week-long stay, it was disappointing to spend our final night in a room that felt pretty gross. To their credit, they did bring up fresh towels and glasses after we contacted them, but the trash cans remained full, the coffee service wasn’t replenished, and the room still hadn’t been cleaned. TBH, after staying here for a full week, I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. There were some positives during our stay, but the overall experience—especially ending on this note—left us feeling underwhelmed.. Rooms are awesome, AC runs cold, water runs hot, good blackout curtains, good soundproofing on windows, very clean, and upgraded espresso machine in room. The front desk staff is a bit hit or miss as far as being welcoming and friendly. The morning staff is too busy fiddling with stuff at the desk to acknowledge guests or say good morning. The afternoon staff is better. The coffee shop in the lobby is absolutely excellent. The much needed heavy security presence in the lobby and entrances is quite something. They are like a small army. After staying here for days they still don't recognize me and think I have no business here. Although that's very off putting it speaks to the location of the hotel as well as the state of affairs in our nation as a whole. It is unfortunately nesasery. This area is a concentration of some of the worst possible human suffering in today's modern life and for the richest country in the world it's as unforgivable as it is shameful.

I highly recommend this hotel. I have stayed in San Francisco hundreds of times for business and leisure. The hotel is centrally located and sparklingly new. The accommodations are impeccably clean and well designed. The bedding is simply heavenly. The bathroom is gorgeous. I was a little leery about the busy location, but the hotel is fabulous. I was greeted by the valet immediately as I pulled up to the hotel, and instantly made me feel welcome. At the front desk I was checked in by Will, who bodies what getting it right looks like in customer service. Great care has been taken to ensure the rooms are peaceful and quiet. This hotel is a quiet sanctuary in the heart of San Francisco.

A great hotel, with lovely, comfortable rooms with a very warm and welcoming roof top bar. The hotel is a short walk to the tram that will take you directly to the piers. Not there is a lot of riff-raff on the streets outside the hotel, but the hotel provides security 24/7. We had no concerns when staying here, it was comforting to know what the place is very secure. We had problems with our shower draining, and when addressed with staff, they promptly sent a maintenance person to fix.

The exterior of the hotel is intrigueingly designed and inside, it is welcoming and comfortable. I found the desk staff very helpful and often went out of their way to accommodate me. The valet staff were especially helpful - carrying my luggage to the uber drivers, tracking down a Waymo or an uber when I had difficulty doing so, providing advice for how to get somewhere on foot. The room itself was simple, but very comfortable and very clean.
