Ciaorigato

★ 4.5 · 188 reviews San Francisco Opened June 2025

Italian and Japanese cooking crossed on one menu, since June 2025

Ciaorigato opened on Mason Street in June 2025, the name splicing ciao and arigato and the menu doing the same thing to Italian and Japanese cooking. Uni pasta is the sort of dish that follows from that premise.

The address is on the Tenderloin side of Union Square, a block that most hotel guests are told to avoid and that has some of the more interesting cooking downtown. Dinner is the main service.

Staff was attentive and friendly, but the food was rather disappointing. - Chicken yakitori: chicken tasted like water chilled; had barely any flavors and the sauces were either too sweet or too spicy - Milk bread focaccia: overall tasty, but very small portion - Rigatoni pasta with mushrooms: flavors were generally good, but the pasta itself tasted rubbery and we couldn’t tell if it was just store bought dry pasta… - Meatball pizza: the chicken meatballs were very dry and didn’t quite belong to this pizza… Overall the ambience and the services had potentials, but we were disappointed by the food

We had an incredible experience at CIAORIGATO, but the absolute highlight of our night was our server, Oana. She provided exceptional service - attentive, warm, and truly professional. She went above and beyond to make our meal special and handled everything with such a great vibe. The Japanese-Italian fusion is creative and delicious, but it’s the top-tier hospitality from Oana that will definitely have us coming back. If you visit, definitely ask for her!

Italian-Japanese fusion done right - this place did not disappoint. The concept could easily feel gimmicky, but Ciaorigato pulls it off with real confidence. Everything we tried was delicious, but my standouts were the sushi and the hanger steak Yuzu - both exceptional. And the dessert? Don't skip it. What made the experience even better was the service. Our server and the team were outstanding - genuinely knowledgeable, great recommendations, and the kind of attentiveness that's hard to find. Tucked inside Hotel Bijou, it's a spot that feels like a find even though it deserves to be packed every night. Can't wait to come back and work through more of the menu.

My wife and I dined here and felt underwhelmed. The focacciapan (bread) was the best part of the dinner. The Tonno and Pesto sushi had absolutely no flavor to it, also the rice is way too thick around those rolls, something was off. The ciaorigatoni was okay, and the hanger steak tagarashi yuzu was mid. If the potatoes were crispy it would have elevated the plate a little. The service was great, the atmosphere was nice too….Overall, it’s not a place that we would dine at again.

Had a lovely dinner here with friends and Ciaorigato did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the food is innovative Italian-japanese fusion and our server (Dejan) was fantastic treated us very well. We ordered an appetizer special, salad, squid ink pizza, and the rigatoni Bolognese with Shitake mushrooms which was a highlight for me. It was so good that we almost ordered another portion and I thought of this specific dish the rest of the week! The squid ink pasta was ok for me, but my friend enjoyed it more. Dejan, our server, also recommended that we must try the sesame tiramisu, and helped us pick a couple great bottles of wine. Excellent service! We'll absolutely visit again!
