Crustacean

★ 4.5 · 111 reviews San Francisco Opened July 2025

The garlic-noodle institution moved downtown in July 2025

Crustacean reopened on Pine Street in July 2025 after decades on Polk, bringing along the roast crab and garlic noodles the An family built the restaurant on. For most of that time, the recipe stayed locked behind a kitchen within the kitchen.

The move puts a forty-year-old San Francisco institution in a Financial District that badly needed one. Order the crab and the noodles together, the only sensible way to do it, and accept your hands are going to be a mess.

The atmosphere here is fantastic, and every course was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. We ordered the shrimp and lobster dumplings, salt and pepper calamari, Chilean sea bass, and the lobster garlic noodles. Every dish was packed with flavor, and the ingredients complemented each other seamlessly. The only downside was a minor service slip when the server accidentally dipped a finger into the sauce while setting down a dish, which was a bit off-putting. Still, given how exceptional the rest of the meal was, we left genuinely impressed with the overall experience.

If you are planning a trip to the Bay Area, experiencing San Francisco’s legendary seafood scene is non-negotiable. At the heart of this culinary tradition stands the iconic crustacean destination that locals and travelers adore, and it has just elevated its experience with a breathtaking move to a brand-new home. The restaurant’s latest location redefines waterfront elegance. Stepping inside reveals a striking, chic interior design that brilliantly fuses vibrant pop art elements with sleek, understated luxury. Think bold, playful color palettes paired with plush seating, ambient lighting, and high-end finishes that make every visit feel like an exclusive celebration. Fortunately, while the atmosphere has received a stunning modern upgrade, the legendary kitchen remains gloriously unchanged. The signature Dungeness crab and world-famous garlic noodles are still absolute masterpieces, delivering the rich, aromatic flavors that put this establishment on the global map. To maximize your culinary indulgence, ordering the de-shelled crab is an essential move—allowing you to savor every single tender, succulent bite of sweet crab meat drenched in their secret garlic butter sauce with zero effort. A trip to San Francisco is simply incomplete without a night here.

We’ve been enjoying the amazing cuisine at Crustacean for about 30 nears now. Everything has always been spectacular and cooked to perfection. Family favorites are AN’s Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab, Tiger Prawns with AN’s Famous Garlic Noodles, and Tuna Cigars. We were saddened to see the removal of the Papaya Salad from menu. The new, larger, upscale location with beautiful full bar is a huge plus. The attentive staff completes the perfection of Crustacean!

The food portions are extremely small and the prices are extremely high. Quality of food is definitely excellent however, if you’re going to pay prices at a level of a five star restaurant, then perhaps the chairs and some of the finishes have to be that too while the staff were accommodating the small portions really made it difficult to enjoy anything. We were a party of six and we spent over $900 we ordered one crab out of the shell and one cracked previously years ago had been at the sister restaurant Thane Long and I recall the portions were much bigger.
