Cajun cooking with Vietnamese edges, by the river
Catahoula took the old All Purpose room on Potomac Avenue SE in May 2026 and filled it with Cajun and Creole cooking that keeps drifting toward Vietnam.
Seafood dominates, crawfish included, which suits a dining room this close to the Anacostia. Pair it with a walk along the water before or after.

We loved Catahoula!! We had the oysters catahoula, the crawfish boil, and the beignets. The oysters were delicious! The crawfish boil was incredibly impressive, some of the best crawfish I’ve ever had! And even though we were full, the beignets are a MUST! Please get them! The service was excellent, Elijah was so friendly and attentive! We were super impressed with this place, delicious food, excellent service, and beautiful restaurant! I’m so excited to come back for happy hour and brunch!

We hosted a joint birthday happy hour at Catahoula DC, and it exceeded all of our expectations! The team was incredibly accommodating throughout the reservation process and made sure everything went smoothly for our group. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, making everyone feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, and the drink menu was very cool. There were many creative cocktails to choose from and everything we ordered was fantastic. The atmosphere was fun, lively, and perfect for celebrating with friends. If you’re looking for a place to host a birthday, happy hour, or just enjoy amazing food and drinks, I can’t recommend Catahoula DC enough. I will definitely be back!

I had to check out the new restaurant on the block! I used to live in New Orleans so I had very high expectations for a place inspired by New Orleans cuisine and overall style. They did a great job with the space. It's beautiful, warm with plenty of character. We went during the week so it wasn't too crowded. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. There aren't any TVs inside but they do have some out side if you want to catch a game. The service was pretty good. We visited within the first few weeks of the restaurant opening, so a lot of the staff were still learning and adapting but everything went fairly well overall. Now the food! We tried a few items: the okra, oysters, shrimp po boy, heritage corn guppies and of course had to wrap up the meal with beignets. My friend really enjoyed the oysters. I thought the okra and the shrimp po boy were okay but wasn't the biggest fan of the guppies. The beignets though, were pretty good! The drinks were pretty good too. I had the Hurricane which was strong and tasty and i would definitely order it again. Overall it was a solid experience. I would come back to try other items on the menu and I would definitely return for drinks and beignets. One thing I wish they had was a daiquiri machine. It would be a great addition to the New Orleans theme and probably an easy way to get people in for a drink at the bar. Think about it!

We loved this place, great food, atmosphere, and the people were incredible. We never had full shell on crawfish so they showed us how to eat them. They were so good, we wish we ordered the bread they had for the sauce the crawfish was in, we ended up eating it like soup because how good it was. My daughter never had étouffée before and they had lobster étouffée and it was as good as I had in New Orleans. Then we had the charbroiled oysters, delicious. They also had pisco sours, very good! Our waiter, James, was amazing.

Catahoula absolutely delivered. The seafood boil was outstanding, the shrimp and crawfish were incredibly fresh, clean, and flavorful. Unlike many boils where the crawfish and shrimp taste like they've been sitting in a muddy tank for weeks, these were sweet, clean, and perfectly seasoned. Strong drinks! The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the waterfront views overlooking the river and bridge made the evening even better. Great food, great energy, and a fantastic spot to gather with friends. Looking forward to coming back.
