Carioca: welcoming staff in restaurant interior

Feijoada and 20-plus cachaças, back from a two-year break near the Naschmarkt

Carioca reopened on Hamburgerstraße in March 2026, near the Naschmarkt, after a two-year break following four years at its original Obere Donaustraße location. The project belongs to graphic designer Livia Pires Mata and illustrator Stefan Stratil, who built it as much as a social hub for Vienna's Brazilian community as a restaurant.

The kitchen keeps its focus narrow and specific: feijoada, the black-bean-and-pork stew that's Brazil's national dish, pão de queijo cheese bread, and a cachaça list running past twenty bottles, including harder-to-find styles like cachaça de jambu. The new address has more room than the original, with garden seating added.

Very chilled Brasilian place. The food was fulfilling, drinks were interesting. Actually mostly surprised by interesting desserts.

"Carioca" is a truly unique and special place! As a Brazilian living in Vienna, I love to visit for the great food and the super friendly staff - I can only recommend it!

Great ambiente and music. Food amazing and typical. Feels like a little holiday trip to Brazil. For sure not the last visit. The people working are very friendly, but could have a bit better eye for details. Not a critic, just a feedback. Still great place! Chapeu

Absolutely amazing place! The service super friendly, food and drink quality great, and I am now obsessed with Jambu-infused cachaça. Planning to come back soon!
