Big JJ Seafood Hotpot

Live-tank Cantonese hotpot under Central's luxury retail

Skip the mala broth. Big JJ builds its hotpot around live seafood pulled straight from tanks by the door, with lighter Cantonese-style broths instead of the spicy defaults most new spots serve.

It sits in the basement food hall of Prince's Building, right in Central's luxury retail block between Chater Road and the harbour. The address and the seafood focus make this feel more like a business lunch than a late-night hotpot run.

Great hotpot, very tender beef but might be difficult to book. Strict 2 hours eating

Black chicken soup was delicious and love how they spoon some soup for you first before you start. So many sauces as well and the beef is really good quality! The only thing is the wait staff are a bit strange lol they really don’t speak any English or mandarin and just look a bit confused or lost wandering around. Not cheap either but worth it for the delicious food.

Quality of food: 5/5 - we went for lunch in the afternoon. The noodles were very tasty and the beef was super tender, paired well with the savoury sauce. Cleanliness: 4/5 - relatively clean restaurant Service: 5/5 - quick service, food came fast after ordering. We arrived for lunch in the afternoon around 2pm where there was a line up but the wait wasn't too long. Value for money: 5/5 - great tasting food for the price Recommendation: 5/5 - must try lunch options if the line up is not too long. The beef noodles were very tasty and the extra beef is worth it. I believe they used the same beef for the hotpot offered for dinner.

Arriving at Big JJ Seafood just after the lunch rush around 1:40 pm was a smart move, resulting in only a 10-minute wait. We sampled three superb dishes. The Pratunam Chicken Rice was a standout, featuring tender, high-quality chicken infused with a delightful lemongrass flavour. Even better was the lamb rib curry—an absolute must-try. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender with a crispy exterior, simmered in a rich, subtly sweet curry brilliantly enhanced by lemon leaf. The beef with noodles was also excellent, with great texture and quality. While not a cheap lunch and the seating is a typical, crowded cha chaan teng setup, the exceptional food more than justifies the visit. It was absolutely worth both the short wait and the price, making for a truly satisfying meal.

Definitely a must in Hong Kong! Heaven for hotpot lover! We went to Big JJ before going airport. Not much time to eat but we made every minute count here. Reservations in advance are recommended, not only for the table but for their signature pork knuckles broth with corn and clams. The restaurant has limited table. Full house even in weekdays. Top notch meat, fresh seafood, fresh vegetables. Flavorful broth. Everything was just perfect for hotpot lover like us 🙏🏼 Staff very nice and helpful from the welcome, menu presentation, provide us details of different meat options and answer our questions. Even help us cook! Can’t wait to be back to Big JJ again
