Sushi lunch, izakaya dinner, inside Tai Kwun's old Armoury Building
Come for the sushi counter at lunch, stay for izakaya plates once the galleries close. Shiro Central runs all day inside the Armoury Building at Tai Kwun, the former Central Police Station compound, working within heritage rules that limit what a kitchen can do in a colonial-era space never built for one.
Tai Kwun has drawn gallery and courtyard visitors past its restaurant row since 2018. This is the spot that catches the museum crowd at noon, then holds the room for the after-dark return.

Nestled within the historic and vibrant Tai Kwun in Central, 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐎 delivers a refined Japanese dining experience that masterfully blends traditional techniques with elegant presentation. From premium seafood to perfectly grilled robatayaki, every dish reflects precision, seasonality, and quiet luxury. - Experienced their standout dishes starting with the beautiful Bluefin Tuna & Seared Salmon with Maitake, Ikura & Kinome Seaweed Salad, a fresh, oceanic opener full of texture and umami. Paired it with the refreshing Yubari Sour (Gin, Melon, Lemon, Yuzu, Egg White, Hojicha, Miso & Seaweed) for a sophisticated beginning. - Moved on to the impressive Signature Crystal Sushi selection, featuring creative gems like Fatty Salmon with Mint & Sake Jelly, Scallop with Caviar & Rose Jelly, Sustainable Bluefin Tuna with Dashi Jelly, and Botan Ebi with Avocado & Ponzu Jelly. As well as the must-try of the Seared Engawa & Eel Maki with Wasabi Sauce. - For something more comforting, we recommend the Snack Bento items that feature crisp Squid Tempura with Garlic Chili, silky Prawn Steamed Egg Custard with Ankake Sauce, and simple Sesame Spinach; then dived into the Robatayaki with premium Wagyu Beef Skewer, followed by the showstopping Grilled Black Cod Marinated with Saikyo Miso and the rich Pan Fried Beef Tenderloin with Creamy Mustard Sauce. End on a light and refreshing note with the Orange Sorbet to top off the entire dining experience.

Not the most traditional omakase but a bit modern I feel, especially with the decor inside, food quality was good. I personally am not sure if I will ever come back for the omakase, but that’s just me
