Dim sum trolleys roll again, this time in Sheung Wan
Trolley carts still trundle table to table here, staff calling out what's on them instead of handing you an order sheet. It's one of the last places in Hong Kong doing dim sum the old way.
Lin Heung Lau ran on Wellington Street for nearly a century before the building sold and the queue outside stretched the length of the block in its final weeks. It reopened days later at Tung Ning Building in Sheung Wan, a short walk away and bigger than before, with an airport branch said to be next.

Lin Heung Lau is more than just a dim sum restaurant: it’s a living piece of Hong Kong’s heritage. the authentic atmosphere, traditional tea culture, and classic pushcart dim sum preserve the charm of old Hong Kong that is becoming increasingly rare. Cantonese recipes every detail reflects a commitment to preserving its legacy. Rather than modernising for trends, Lin Heung Lau stays true to its roots, offering an experience that is as nostalgic as it is delicious. My non exhausted list of dim sum includes beef balls, huge soup dumplings, shrimp toasts, coconut steam egg and many more

Famous dim sum restaurant, established in 1927. Nicely decorated and one can feel the vintage vibes. We ordered several kind of dimsum, siu mai, har gow, charsiu bao, xiao lung bao, and 1 more kind which I forget the name (but don’t bother as it taste average). The siu mai tasted Ok, charsiu bao and har gow tasted good, but overall not that special. The Xiao lung bao taste below average, the skin too thick. We might be just wrong in picking the kind of dimsum, as it’s our first time here. Visit here just to experience the vintage vibes as the restaurant is one of the oldest dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong.

Food: The food is quite good. The chaxiao was quite tender and the shrimp dumplings had a lot of shrimp flavor. The chicken was very nice too. Service: Staff is very nice and attentitive but it seemed like a lot of food was unavailable but it was only 7pm, which was a bummer Atmosphere: Nice decor and newly furbished. The toilet needs to be cleaned better and the table is too low, causing me to bump my leg on it many times.

A typical Hong Kong diner. It’s loud, it’s nicely decorated and it’s full of good food. I always come back for more from them. Mind you that not all dishes may be available through out the time you are there, and some are not the top of their tiers, but overall this is the best restaurant that can deliver all of the dishes well with constant quality. They have new floors new locations now. Less trouble finding tables, same good food. Must try char siew pau, pork ribs, siew mai and liu sha pau

I visited in April for dinner, before they moved to their new location. The dim sum was delicious, and it is self-service where you pick your items from the dim sum counter. The roast goose was surprisingly good, though quite fatty, so worth noting if you prefer leaner meat. The beef hor fun was just average. However, service was quite rude during our visit. We were forced to accept pickled leek that we did not enjoy (we said no but they forced it). It tasted very raw and overpowering. Overall, food was decent but the service left a bad impression.
