Maxim's Palace MOKO

The trolley dim sum institution rolls into Mong Kok

Skip the order sheet. Maxim's Palace's new MOKO branch keeps the trolleys circling, one of the last few restaurants in the city still doing dim sum this way, while the chain's City Hall flagship has run the same service since 1972.

MOKO sits on the old Prince Edward Road tram depot site, a Mong Kok mall whose upper floors mostly house established chains. Maxim's Palace's arrival brings an Hong Kong Island name over to Kowloon, betting on mall diners who'd rather not cross the harbour for their har gow.

We enjoyed their dim sum so we decided to also come back to try dinner here. It's a large restaurant with plenty of seating and an upscale feel. You grab a number by the screen based on your table size and wait to be called. The flavours were good, they have a good variety of selections, and it's probably one of the few places left where they come around with dim sum carts. We would recommend the dim sum here, where you can find some nostalgic items. All of the BBQ dishes we got, goose, suckling pig, and squab, were delicious. The steamed fish was unfortunately a little overcooked. The dinner menu can be a bit pricey for what you get.

Food is good. The seats are comfortable and spacious in hk crowded standard. Service differs amongst staff. Some were good, some were rude. It's quite interesting; a chef roasted a baby pig on site.

I believe this outlet just opened when we were visiting in March 2026. Can see that the crowd is there and staff is overwhelmed. Overall not a fantastic dining experience here. Most of the time couldn’t get the staff attention when we need hot water refill our tea and to place order. Everyone too busy. But the queue system was good.
