Halal Central Asian cooking on Elgin Street

Plov piled with lamb and carrots, skewers off the grill, flatbreads pulled from Uzbek and Kazakh kitchens: YURT is the rare halal Central Asian menu in a city that barely has one. Textiles and low seating in one corner nod to the tent the name comes from.

Elgin Street has cycled through international restaurants for two decades, but this cuisine is new even to SoHo. Hong Kong's halal scene has leaned South Asian or Middle Eastern, so YURT covers ground nobody else here does.

The hospitality was top-notch, we felt welcomed instantly and we also loved every single dish. Celebrating my friend’s birthday here made it even more memorable and it was such a wonderful way to experience Kazakhstani culture. Highly recommend!:)

i went with a friend for dinner and drinks and I had a really great time honestly!! the food was lovely, the staff was super friendly and hospitable! i personally loved how the staff gave personal anecdotes about the dishes they were serving, that felt as if i was sitting and being served in a Central Asian household. the vibe and atmosphere was very positive, warm and honestly wholesome !! a huge thank you to Erbol for making our evening so seamless! he were incredibly attentive - his warm, welcoming energy and genuine hospitality made us feel right at home!! also i personally really enjoyed the fact that it was an alcohol-free restaurant, that was refreshing. the drinks were to die for! we got the almaty nights + bukhara spritz - both amazing choices! can’t wait to go back and try more!! when i went with my friend, i got the Dolma and Achichuk from the a la carte menu. both were delicious! however, i must say there were limited vegetarian options in both the tasting and a la carte menu. as a vegetarian, i believe it would have been really nice to have more fuller / protein - rich options. but nonetheless, the food quality and taste were both very nice! overall, the restaurant is a must visit! I would recommend getting the Tary Tea for all the tea lovers!!

Got tasting menus with pairing. It is a good place for people who don’t drink alcohol as all drinks are non-alcoholic. It may be better to just get the drinks separately rather than pairing given it is 3 separate glass. The sea bass and lamb stack was delicious! The birthday cake is same dessert as everyone but with birthday message on it. Booking later into the night would be better as they have 90 minutes time limit and usually need to return table if there is next booking. Luckily, our session was perfect so we could enjoy comfortably. The staff were very accommodating.

We tried the mystery menu and it was subliem. Each dishes was well explained by the staff on its origin and its ingredients. All in all, the journey through the menu was very memorable. The horse meat and lamb deserves a special mentioning. Recommended.

Celebrated my husband’s birthday this evening. Simple, authentic interior and excellent food—particularly enjoyed our first taste of horse meat. The service was outstanding: kind, welcoming, and professionally knowledgeable about the menu. Wishing them continued success. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
