A first classical French menu from Berlin's Asian fine-dining chef

The Duc Ngo spent years defining Berlin's Asian fine-dining scene before turning, for the first time, to classical French cuisine at Manon. Loup de mer, veal sweetbread and a reworked croque monsieur run the range from familiar to reconsidered.

Longtime collaborator Jana Kämpfer runs the room day to day, a lavender-lined courtyard inside the newly transformed Roomers hotel on Steinplatz.

Amazing food. A few mixed ups with the staff but they were quite progressional and friendly. My only complaint is that everyone was sitting in the coveted court yard. Then a large group arrived of smokers so I felt it was a bit rude to have so an amazing and tasty meal of French food ruined with the smell/taste of cigarettes. I’d suggest that they ban smoking out there when it’s operating as a restaurant and has a covered roof. Otherwise I loved it!

I ordered the pork belly from the Vietnamese menu, the cordon bleu and the potato gratin followed by some chocolate sorbet washed down with some of the house Pilsner! The servers were very nice and fun. The food was a very high quality as I believe the food was reasonably priced for a high end restaurant. I will return hopefully with travel companions as this was a solo business trip. Great atmosphere also!

Another restaurant in the Duc Ngo empire, but not so fancy as the Asian ones. I had the Cordon Bleu, which might be okay for a German clientele, but did not satisfy me as it seemed to be done in oil bath and not panfried in butter. The oysters though were very fresh. Prices are quite high especially for the wines and the setting is not so hip, reminding me of the 1950's. Service was fine and friendly.

Great Christmas experience with great staff, awesome food and a nice atmosphere. Thanks so much to all the waiters, but especially Stefan for being always attentive, creating a very personal feeling, and giving us an excellent wine recommendation.
