Nikkei ceviches and omakase bites by the Convention District

Chef Eric Sánchez runs the Japanese-Peruvian-Puerto Rican triangle here, with tiraditos, light crudos, ceviches, baos and a lineup called Omakase Bites. The seafood chaufa rice is the sleeper hit, easy to overlook next to the raw stuff.

This is a neighborhood that mostly feeds convention traffic. MUTUO is the one spot worth crossing the district for on purpose.

For starters, the ceviche had NO flavor at all. It had NO acidity whatsoever. We had to ask for lemons and limes to give it something. The excuse the waiter gave us was the kitchen was watching the World Cup game (which we said jokingly but apparently it was the case). Aside from that, the cocktails were good and rest of the food was solid. The pulpo tiradito was definitely overcooked but at least it had good flavor. Ambiance was ok given it was in the hotel lobby so it was noisy and didn’t feel very private. In all honesty, the spot felt like an afterthought. Our server was great all things considered. She was attentive, honest, kind and had good recommendations. She was the highlight of the night to be very honest. Overall, I wouldn’t go out of your way for this spot and considering the price, not really worth it imo. Should you go, the braised short rib and risotto was probably the best dish.

This restaurant is my absolute favorite in PR!! The seafood is so delicious and fresh! The service is absolutely fantastic as well - it’s truly a great experience every time. Make sure to make reservations! There are many large groups that stay in that hotel & they sometimes buy out the restaurant for events.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had such a great experience at Mutuo Sabor Nikkei! The ceviche was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, and the fish in every sushi roll tasted incredibly fresh. The dining room was beautiful, comfortable, and had such a nice atmosphere for dinner. On top of that, our waiter was so friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be coming back soon!

I can't say enough good about this restaurant. We had a special Valentine Day menu and it could not have been better. Not only is the chef a master of flavor, but the plating was beautiful as well. The service was also impeccable. Highly recommend!
