Tap cocktails and DJ sets on Kaohsiung's harbor

WAVESTELLAR is the Yonshin Fengcha group turning up the volume. Founder Hsueh Shun-ti comes from the family behind Lao Hsin Taiwanese Cuisine, and that banquet-house pedigree shows up as bar food: mini oyster fritters in spring-roll skin, a whole fried chicken leg under salted egg yolk sauce, seafood snacks that shift with the season.

Nine cocktails run on tap at NT$250 to 300 a glass. The room shifts through the day too: coffee from noon, dinner after, then a DJ after 10pm turns the harbor side into the closest thing Kaohsiung has to a Taipei club night.

We just stopped in here for a drink, but the atmosphere was awesome, the playlist was dope, and the drinks were refreshing and delicious. I got the Earl Gray Sangria and it is probably one of the best sangrias I have had, including ones I had in Spain and Italy. Highly recommend stopping here, even just for the vibe and some cocktails.

Food is really good but servings are small for the price. The squid in particular is very delicious.

The food was surprisingly good and nicely seasoned. I’d say the dishes have a bit of a fusion twist, which I wasn’t expecting – a pleasant surprise.
