Da Local Boy has served Hawaiian plate lunches in Highwood since 2024. In March 2026 it opened a counter-service second location on South Franklin in the Loop.

The format is the plate lunch: rice, a scoop of something, and a protein. Loco moco and huli huli chicken anchor the list, pork belly in calamansi ponzu sits alongside, and the combination platters come with a side of poke.

got the surf and turf and the galbi was really good but the shrimp had shells still attached on them. second time i’ve been there and wished they had more seating but other than that the food is worth it

Got delivery for lunch on a weekday. The portions were generous and the taste was pretty on point with what I had in Hawaii. The kalbi was a bit more chewy than I would like but would still get again.

This is a no-frills Hawaiian fusion lunch spot in The Loop. The space is tiny (and often smokey) with limited seating, long lines at lunch rush hour, food served in take-out container and just a few options for drinks. But the line goes quickly, the food is served hot and fast...and it's both reasonably priced and absolutely delish!

Very glad to have a Hawaiian option in the loop and close to south loop, especially right next door to a fantastic Turkish restaurant. Surf and turf dish was excellent, perfect short ribs, shrimp while flavorful I would prefer peeled and suggest that be considered. Also can't say no to spam musubi, not belt wrapped seaweed but still very delicious, looking forward to other variations of musub and trying other items on their menu!
