Jomon Sushi & Izakaya
★ 4.8 · 36 reviews Chicago Opened 13 July 2026
Sushi, ramen and yakitori from the Mammoth Poke team
Jomon opened on North Western Avenue in mid-July 2026, from the group behind the small local chain Mammoth Poke. It trades fast-casual bowls for a proper izakaya format. The name comes from one of the oldest periods in Japanese history.
The menu splits in two: maki and nigiri on one side, grilled skewers, ramen and Japanese comfort cooking on the other. It's a sit-down room with a bar, something Bucktown didn't have much of before it opened.

A menu that is both concise and varied. The food is well executed. Wonderful incorporation of mushrooms in multiple dishes. Staff is friendly. 90s hip hop and R&B set vibe.

We just had lunch here and honestly was blown away at how good it was! Emmy our server was the friendliest, loveliest server. The food was so fresh and authentic and the fit out is just gorgeous. I couldn’t recommend this place more!
