Rome meets Tokyo in Frank Bonanno's Larimer Square gamble
Handmade pasta next to sushi sounds like a dare, but Bonanno has been testing the combination through pop-ups long before the doors opened. The eighty-seat room fills a Larimer Square storefront that sat empty for years after Ted's Montana Grill closed.
It's the chef's first big step outside his usual Italian lane, and the pedestrian block outside, across from Tamayo, has outdoor seating worth grabbing.

Good start to the opening week. I feel like it can improve and become more polished. Water was only filled up once during the dinner. At mandatory service fee of 22% someone should be on top of this. The carbonara is good, but the pork used is to fatty and not a good chew to the meat. The bolognese was good. Both dishes play it a little safe for fusion food. The Hawaiian tuna roll was the star. Probably the best pieces of tuna we have ever had. Would definitely return to try more sushi. Really want to try to wagyu but the price point to service/ atmosphere makes it a hard decision to make. I think the dinning atmosphere lacks for the price point to enjoy at the location. Would return for sushi and to try some other items. Probably skip dessert and drinks next time.

Honored to be one of the first to try this place! I really love Japanese Italian fusion and there were definitely some unique dishes here. Going by each dish: Terminal Bar- Was excited for the thai tea component but the negroni element overpowered that Chawanmushi- A must get. So umami, custardy, and good combo of flavors and textures The dip- Loved how much beef was packed into this! But will say the wagyu part mislead me- it was so tender but I think it was american or australian wagyu, and not buttery and melt in your mouth like japanese wagyu. The shoyu au jus was a good accompaniment Arugula tagliatelle- some of the noodles were not separated so the texture there was a bit inconsistent, but still al dente. The sauce was so unique and captured the perfect amount of uni and truffle Udon carbonara- too small of a portion for the proce and honestly all the good parts of this were in the chawanmushi, better off just getting that Hojicha tiramisu- this might be a temporary item but was the most disappointed by this. Almost no hojicha flavor, and the cream part was too sweet, not very light, and overall the dessert wasnt set, almost like melted ice cream

Went to their soft opening and loved it. They really nailed the Italian-Japanese fusion concept with amazing dishes and fun cocktails. It’s a fast paced and buzzy environment with very cute decor. I’m already excited to go back and try more of their dishes

I debated between four and five stars, but landed on five. We were there on day three, and they freely admitted they were still working out some service kinks. There were also a few dishes where I could see exactly what I would change. But none of it felt structural, and there was already enough here that I have a lot of faith in what this restaurant is going to become. More importantly, I am just really glad this restaurant exists. The Italian-Japanese concept feels a little like what I remember Wolf’s Tailor originally promising to be, and it also picks up where Bones left off. I have missed that particular lane in Denver. We somewhat accidentally stopped in before a concert, weren’t starving, and mostly wanted to try some things. One of the bigger surprises was how easy the menu made that. I often get weirdly paralyzed by menus with a million sections because I start trying to engineer a meal that makes sense. Here we just ordered, shared everything, and somehow ended up with exactly the right amount of food and a meal that had a natural progression. Cacio e pepe ramen was probably the best bite. Butter, miso dashi, pecorino, ramen, black pepper. My only complaint is that they need to really commit to the pepe. It was delicious as-is, but a lot more black pepper would make it feel fully like cacio e pepe and ramen simultaneously rather than just a very good cheesy ramen. The chawanmushi was also excellent, especially when you got the Parmesan foam, but there wasn’t enough foam to get some in every bite. Easy fix, because the bites where everything came together were fantastic. The lamb skewers were the one place I thought they need to pick a lane. The glaze was delicious and the lamb flavor itself was great, but either char the hell out of it and make the slightly tougher texture part of a rustic skewer, or butcher it more carefully/use a more tender cut and go refined. Right now it sits a little awkwardly between the two. All of that probably sounds more critical than I mean it to. These are pretty nitpicky complaints about a restaurant on its third day, and, more importantly, I wanted to keep eating basically everything they put in front of us. So five stars. Some of that is for what Rōmyō already is, and some is because I have a pretty strong suspicion it is going to get better and better as they dial everything in. I will be back to find out

What a fun and refreshing dining experience! It’s not often you get to try something completely new, and Italian-Japanese fusion was definitely a first for us. From the moment we sat down, the experience felt special. You sit in a train car-style booth with a screen that takes you on a journey through Italy or Japan while you dine. Such a creative concept! And the food was just as memorable. Who would have thought Romano cheese over rice paired with their homemade soy sauce, aged in an oak barrel, would be so amazing? Somehow it absolutely works! Everything was unique, flavorful and thoughtfully done. The service was incredible as well and really added to the whole experience. If you’re looking for something different and fun, I definitely think this place is a must-try!
